Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

What a frightfully magical time we had this past Saturday with 1,281 kids, 465 volunteers, 201 parents, and 22 teachers & staff! We welcomed our 18,000th new volunteer at what turned out to be our 12th biggest clubs of all time!

We would especially like to thank the seven incredible magicians (six from the Westside Wizards) who made the reading clubs so special this month and who donated magic books to our schools' libraries! They also invite you to a free magic show on Sunday, 10/25 in La Puente!

At our November 14th reading clubs we'll be celebrating college spirit, so dig out your college sweatshirt or hat and wear your colors with pride. We always look forward to seeing which college brings the most spirit. If you would like to organize a group from your university or alumni organization, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

Sign up now to ensure your spot by clicking here to RSVP.  We expect a lot of new volunteers in November, so please sign up early! Then help spread the word by also joining our November 14th Facebook Event.

8 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED SAT., OCT. 24
FOR CROSSWORDS LA

Crosswords LA

Want to help out Reading to Kids an additional Saturday this month? Crosswords LA is holding a crossword puzzle tournament on Saturday, October 24 with proceeds benefiting Reading to Kids!

The tournament will be held at the Fowler Museum at UCLA (in the Harry and Yvonne Lenart Auditorium), and Crosswords LA needs 8 volunteers to help run the event!

This tournament raises money for Reading to Kids, so if you can volunteer with them for either the full day or a half day, please email us today at info@readingtokids.org. Full day volunteers (8:30am – 4:45pm) get a free lunch! This is a great opportunity to volunteer for Reading to Kids an additional Saturday in the month! Let's show our volunteer spirit by supporting their efforts to help us!

COLLEGE LOGO ITEMS NEEDED FOR NOV. 14TH READING CLUBS

As we mentioned above, November is our college spirit month, and we want to give each child who attends something small with a college insignia on it.

If you can obtain college-related items, stickers are always a hit with the younger kids. For the older kids we like to give them pins/buttons, pens, pencils, notebooks, etc. But really, anything with a college logo will help plant the seeds of college interest.

If you work at or have a connection with a college, please help us by asking for a donation of items with that college's insignia. If you like, you can click this link for a request letter/email you can send. Great sources of items with your college's logo are the athletic department and the bookstore!

To "sponsor" one grade at one school, we need about 40 of one item. To sponsor all of one grade at all 7 schools, then we need about 225 of one item. And anything in between would be very helpful!
