Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Our April 13th "Amazing Animals and Interesting Environments" Reading Clubs are fast approaching! We're 100% full right now, but keep checking our website for openings due to cancellations as the date nears.

If you're signed up but can't join us, please click here to cancel before 3pm on Friday, April 12th, so that someone else may take your place.

The Volunteer Relations Committee is looking for people to improve the volunteer experience at Reading to Kids. If you have ideas or motivation, we can use them at our next Volunteer Relations Taskforce Committee meeting which will be between April 22nd and April 28th.

To help decide the exact date and time, please email Nancy Lyon (Nancy.Lyonreadingtokids.org) your interest and available times during those days.

This can be a great way for you to get more involved with Reading to Kids by joining the Taskforce.

The UCLA Chi Delta Theta sorority is very generously staging a free Reading to Kids benefit concert and raffle on April 12th, and you are invited!

The concert and raffle will be on Friday, April 12th, from 7-10 pm in the Kerckhoff Grand Salon at UCLA. The headliner is Leroy Sanchez, and the concert will feature other acoustic performances still being arranged. During the concert, Chi Delta Theta sisters will be a raffling off donated items, then donating to Reading to Kids the raffle funds and any books attendees donate.

If you can be near UCLA that Friday evening, please attend!

As part of LACMA's ongoing engagement with the community, LACMA is presenting Shinique Smith: Firsthand at Charles White Elementary School.

The exhibition is open to the public and reflects upon New York–based artist Shinique Smith's gritty Baltimore upbringing and early exposure to the sophisticated world of fashion design. Please click here for the exhibit dates and times.

We're starting to plan this year's events, and we need your help gathering prizes!

Our events are more fun and raise more money if we have great prizes to award, raffle, and/or auction. Big prizes. Little prizes. Serious prizes. Silly prizes. We need them all! Check out our list of prizes from last year's Silent Auction for ideas.

If you have any prizes, or you know where to get them, let us know!

The fun starts this May with our annual Legendary Bingo night, and we'd love to have something fabulous for the grand prize winner -- anything unique or with an autograph is always welcome!

To help you get started, here is a generic donation letter to give to a manager, supervisor, or friend who may be able to donate a gift, product, or service, tips on how to best approach a business or person to donate to our events, and a donation form for the donor to complete.

In the past we have had gift certificates, products, services, and tickets to fun events. If you work at or have a connection with a restaurant, retail store, or for a company with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.

Please also let Skylar know to whom you reach out so we don't accidentally duplicate Special Events Committee efforts in contacting businesses.

Thank you very much!
