Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Our "Family & The Spirit of Giving" reading clubs are this Saturday, and we need 27 more volunteers to read aloud to an expected 700 plus kids eager to hear a story and see Santa!

Santa and Mrs. Claus at Alta Loma Elem. reading clubs

Please help by joining our December 14th reading club event so your friends will see that on your wall. Then go to our website and sign up with us.

Please tweet, post to Facebook and Instagram, and message your friends that we still need more volunteers.

Please also print out this flyer and post it at your work, school, church, synagogue, mosque, or favorite community bulletin board.

(If you have signed up and can't make it, please cancel to make room for another volunteer.)

The Pasadena Jaycees are providing our Santa suits for this Saturday!

If you are interested in volunteering for Operation Santa and bringing joy to children in need on Christmas Eve, click here or email them at OpSanta@PasadenaJaycees.org!

2019 ANNUAL FUND DRIVE UPDATE:
SCHOOL COMPETITION!

Reading to Kids Annual Fund Drive

December is the final month of our 2019 Annual Fund Drive, our most important fundraiser of the year - and so far 392 donors have donated $35,455!

Help us reach our fundraising goals of $60,000 from 600 donors with a donation by cash, check, or credit card.

SCHOOL COMPETITION UPDATE!

Highest percentage of volunteers who donated on Nov. 9th:
1st: Esperanza Elementary (30%!)
2nd: Alta Loma Elementary
3rd: MacArthur Park Elementary

Highest dollar amount raised on Nov. 9th:
1st: Esperanza Elementary
2nd: MacArthur Park Elementary
3rd: White Elementary

Highest percentage of volunteers who have donated overall:
1st: Los Angeles (37%)
2nd: Esperanza (just 3% behind)
3rd: MacArthur Park

Highest dollar amount raised overall:
1st: Esperanza (thanks to Angel fundraisers Matthew Jones & Mark May)
2nd: Los Angeles
3rd: Gratts

Which school will collect the greatest number of donations from their volunteers this month?

Here's how you can help, with your donations also counting towards the school competition:

1) Make a pledge to donate by check or online. Contributions of any amount are greatly appreciated!

2) Show your support by asking friends and family to contribute! Visit our 2019 Annual Fund Drive page and look under the "Help us Fundraise!" header for resources, including information on creating your own personalized fundraising page on Facebook, our handy donor sheet for raising money with your friends and co-workers, tips for fundraising, and so much more.

Once they know about Reading to Kids, many of your friends and family will want to donate - we just need you to ask!

If you collect donations this week, you can bring them with you to Saturday's reading clubs!

Also, if your workplace matches donations to nonprofits, please share with them your donation and ask them to consider matching it. In this way you double your donation and share with others your enthusiasm for Reading to Kids!

MAKE YOUR DONATION A MATCH

This year at the October and November reading clubs we had 13 donors match the first $250 or up to $1,000 of donations made at each schools reading clubs! This meant that anyone reading and donating at each of our schools those Saturdays had their donations doubled!

If you or your employer can do something similar, please let us know and announce it on Saturday - a matching donation can be an exciting way to inspire others to donate!

We're looking for two more marathon runners to join us in one of the best marathons in the country.

If a marathon is too daunting, you can join us in the Big 5K (that's just 3.1 miles) near Dodger Stadium the day before the marathon on Saturday, March 7, 2020.

You can share this Facebook group with any of your runner friends to encourage them to join our team!

If you or a runner you know is interested in becoming one of our fundraising runners or creating a fundraising team, please email Chris Martin at marathon@readingtokids.org!

IMPORTANT NOTE: To register to run on behalf of Reading to Kids, you MUST receive from us a special web address to use when registering on the Los Angeles Marathon website.
