HELP RECRUIT 115 MORE READERS
FOR NOV. 14th!

We are just 9 days away from the November 14th reading clubs, and we still need 115 more readers - which means we need YOUR help in recruiting them!

To get started, sign up today. Then join our November 14th Facebook Event so your friends will see that you will be attending.

Next, please email and post on your Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/ etc. that we need more volunteers. I've provided a sample post below, but in whatever you post please be sure to include the following two things:

1) The reading clubs are the morning of November 14th near Downtown LA
2) Volunteers must sign up online at www.readingtokids.org

"My favorite volunteer organization, Reading to Kids, is looking for more volunteers for their November 14th reading clubs. The theme is "The Wonders of Science and Technology", and all volunteers are encouraged to wear something with their college's logo to encourage the kids to aspire to college.   Join me at ### Elementary School for a fantastic morning of reading to elementary school kids near downtown LA. To join me, sign up online today at www.readingtokids.org."

If you have people in mind who you think would really like to read with us, email them the above message or tag them in your post. Tagging them in the post will alert them to the reading clubs and show up in their friends' news feeds.

Please also print out this flyer and post it in heavily populated locations such as coffee shops, the gym, your office or other various community centers. Make it a personal and fun social event by including the school at which you'll be reading.  You can also use this easy email template to reach out to your friends and co-workers.

November 14th is also College Spirit Day, so be sure to earn honors for your alma mater and wear your college logo proudly! We'll be tallying the number of volunteers sporting their college logo that morning, then announcing the following week which college or university showed the most spirit at the reading clubs!

COLLEGE GIVE-AWAY ITEMS NEEDED

We want to give each child who attends our November 14th reading clubs something small with a college insignia on it.

If you can obtain college-related items, stickers are always a hit with the younger kids. For the older kids we like to give them pins/buttons, pens, pencils, notebooks, etc. But really, anything with a college logo will help plant the seeds of college interest.

If you work at or have a connection with a college, please help us by asking for a donation of items with that college's insignia. If you like, you can click this link for a request letter/email you can send. Great sources of items with your college's logo are the athletic department and the bookstore!

To "sponsor" one grade at one school, we need about 40 of one item. To sponsor all of one grade at all 7 schools, then we need about 225 of one item. And anything in between would be very helpful!

MARATHON RUNNERS NEEDED

Do you know any runners? Ask them to join Team Reading to Kids in the 2016 Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon! They'll be a part of team Reading to Kids as they run in one of the best marathons in the country on Sunday, February 14th (Valentine's Day).

Runners can run either the full marathon or a half-marathon, and the dollars raised will go to support our monthly reading clubs.

THANK YOU YAHOO EMPLOYEE FOUNDATION!

We are thrilled to thank the Yahoo Employee Foundation (YEF) for their very generous grant of $20,000 to support Reading to Kids!

YEF is a corporate advised fund of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, and their grant will go towards helping all of our volunteers share our enthusiasm for reading with the thousands of children we read to every month.

Our special thanks go to Reading to Kids volunteer Eileen Scahill for being our Yahoo Employee Champion for this donation!

2015 ANNUAL FUND DRIVE UPDATE!

Reading to Kids Annual Fund Drive

The 2015 Annual Fund Drive is off to a great start with $5,538 donated from 104 donors!

Those who have donated can see their names listed on our 2015 Annual Fund Drive page. If you have not yet donated, be sure to donate today so we can add your name there, too.

Our Annual Fund Drive lasts until December 31st, and our goal this year is to raise $45,000 from 500 donors. Please help us meet that goal by spreading the word to your friends and co-workers!

How Can You Help?

1) Make a pledge to donate by check or online. Contributions of any amount are greatly appreciated!

2) Show your support by asking friends and family to contribute! Look under the "Help us Fundraise!" header for our handy donor sheet for raising money with your friends and co-workers, a sample email you can easily personalize, and tips for fundraising.

Also, if your workplace matches donations to nonprofits, please share with them your donation, and ask them to consider matching it. In this way you double your donation and share with others your enthusiasm for Reading to Kids!
