Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

We are a mere 9 days away from our September 13th "Back to School Fun" reading clubs, and we need another 122 volunteer readers! We'll be giving away school supplies to the kids, too!

Here are 5 easy things you can do right now to help recruit volunteers!

  • If you haven't already, please visit our website now and sign up.

  • "Join" our September 13th Facebook Event to let your friends know the fun you'll be up to that morning!

  • Post on your Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/ etc. that we need more volunteers. I've provided a sample post below, but in whatever you post please be sure to include the following two things:

    - The reading clubs are the morning of September 13th near downtown LA
    - Volunteers must sign up online at www.readingtokids.org

    Sample Post:

A really great organization I volunteer with, Reading to Kids, is looking for more volunteers for their September 13th reading clubs. It's my favorite volunteer opportunity in LA, and I hope you can join me. It's a fun filled morning of reading to elementary school kids near downtown LA. If you want to join me I'll be at ### Elementary School. Sign up online at www.readingtokids.org.

If you have people in mind who you think would really like to read with us, tag them in your post. It will alert them to the reading clubs and show up in their friends' news feeds.

  • Use our handy email template (in PDF) to encourage people you know to sign up to read with us!

  • Print out this flyer and post it somewhere others will see it. Make it a personal and fun social event by including the school at which you'll be reading!

With your enthusiasm and support, together we can make 1,200 kids happy on Sept. 13th!

If you're signed up but know you can't make it to the September 13th reading clubs, please be sure to cancel your RSVP as soon as you can.

Next week leads up to the 9/13 reading clubs, and we can use your help to do the following at each school that week:

- Put up the banner
- Distribute teacher welcome letters
- Distribute Classroom Sign-In Posters
- Conduct quick classroom walk-throughs to encourage kids to come to the reading clubs that Saturday

We'll supply everything you need, so we just need folk (ideally in pairs) who can go to a school or two that Monday morning or perhaps other days that week (specific times still to be determined).

This is a wonderful way to interact with the kids and teachers! The more we publicize at the beginning of the school year, the more children and families we'll serve all year.

Please email us at inforeadingtokids.org or call the office if you can be an Ambassador next week.

Looking for a new way to get involved with Reading to Kids? Want to add volunteer office help to your resume? We currently are looking for a few good interns and volunteers to help us in the office on weekdays on a regular basis.

There are tons of things that need to be done in the office for every reading club, as well as general office work. If you or someone you trust is interested and available during weekdays, please email us at inforeadingtokids.org or call the office at (310) 479-7455.

If you or someone you know possesses the powers of magic and illusion, please contact us. We are looking for magicians to perform at each of our seven schools at our October 11th reading clubs!

Thank you very much, and please help recruit volunteers for Sept. 13th!
