Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

The kids are getting excited about the "Music and Celebrations" reading Clubs on March 8th and we'd like you to join us! We still need 230 more readers, so click here and submit your RSVP today.

Then please also take a moment to join our March 8th Facebook event. Your friends will be able to see that you're attending the reading clubs, and you can help spread the word by inviting them to join, too.

As we do every March, some very talented musicians will be performing. Click here to find out who will be performing at your school - you may even know them personally!

The ASICS LA Marathon is happening on Sunday, March 9th, and Team Reading to Kids can use your support!

Please encourage them by donating to our valiant runners' fundraising pages as they strive towards raising money for Reading to Kids!

Team Reading to Kids 2014 ASICS LA Marathon

They have already raised more than $8,300 towards their overall goal of $10,000. If you can donate a buck a mile to your favorite runner, that will help fuel them towards the finish line!

To celebrate Read Across America, Los Angeles Elementary School will be joining schools nationwide to commemorate Dr. Seuss' birthday. They would love for you to join them by visiting classrooms and reading a story to our students during their guest reader day on Friday, March 7 (the day before our next reading clubs).

To be a guest reader that day, please download this flyer, complete the bottom portion, then return it via mail, fax, or email by Wednesday, February 26. Please contact Lorena Rodriguez at lxr0850lausd.net or (323) 734-8233 if you have any questions.

Please remember this is separate from our reading clubs on Saturday, March 8th.

We've started planning this year's fundraising events, and we need your help gathering prizes!

Our events are more fun and raise more money if we have great prizes to award, raffle, and/or auction. Big prizes. Little prizes. Serious prizes. Silly prizes. We need them all! Check out our list of prizes from last year's Silent Auction for ideas.

If you have any prizes, or you know where to get them, let us know! We'd love to have something fabulous for the Silent Auction or for our grand prize Bingo winner -- anything unique or with an autograph is always welcome!

To help you get started, here is a generic donation letter to give to a manager, supervisor, or friend who may be able to donate a gift, product, or service, tips on how to best approach a business or person to donate to our events, and a donation form for the donor to complete.

In the past we have had gift certificates, products, services, and tickets to fun events. If you work at or have a connection with a restaurant, retail store, or for a company with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.

Please also let us know to whom you reach out so we don't accidentally duplicate Special Events Committee efforts in contacting businesses.

We need a well-known, headliner comedian for this April's Benefit Comedy Night! If you personally know a headliner comedian who would be interested and available for this event that will likely take place on April 29th, please reply to this email.

We'd also like to have a celebrity host for either our Comedy Night or as a bingo caller for our annual Legendary Bingo Night on June 11th. Please reply if you can personally reach out to any celebrities who would like to help your favorite good cause!

Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you on the 8th!
