Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

With many of our regular volunteers celebrating Yom Kippur this Saturday, we still need 64 more volunteers, especially at Magnolia and Politi!

If you have not already, please visit our website now and sign up.

Next, become a Reading to Kids hero and find more volunteers than anyone else! The person who sends me the names of the most volunteers they recruited (and who read with us on Saturday) will be celebrated in our Sept. 19th news email!

Here's what you can do to win:

- "Join" our Facebook event to let your friends know the fun you'll be up to on the 14th!

- Tweet, Post, and Tumble to all of your friends and followers about the reading clubs! Here's a sample post you can use:

"A really great organization I volunteer with, Reading to Kids, is looking for more volunteers for their reading clubs this Saturday. It's my favorite volunteer opportunity in LA, and I hope you can join me. It's a fun filled morning of reading to elementary school kids near downtown LA. If you want to join me I'll be at ### Elementary School. Sign up online at www.readingtokids.org."

If you write your own post, please be sure to include the following two things:

1) The reading clubs are this Saturday morning near Downtown LA
2) Volunteers must sign up online at www.readingtokids.org

If you have people in mind who you think would really like to read with us, tag them in your post. It will alert them to the reading clubs and show up in their friends' news feeds.

- Print out this flyer and post it somewhere others will see it. Make it a personal and fun social event by including the school at which you'll be reading!

Working together we can create a wonderful reading club experience this Saturday!

INTRODUCING SARAH PARGA AND HANNAH EDWARDS, NEW LITERACY COORDINATORS

It is our pleasure to announce that we have two new full-time people working with us in the Reading to Kids offices! Sarah Parga and Hannah Edwards are serving 10 months with us as AmeriCorps VIP Fellows for the 2013-14 school year.

Both will focus on increasing the quality of our volunteer experience, coordinating the monthly reading clubs, and volunteer recruitment.

Sarah graduated from California State University, Northridge with a BA in English and Creative Writing and a Minor in Religious Studies. She has instructed K-12 children through her work at ComedySportz Los Angeles and Mad Science, and she has years of experience teaching and performing improv comedy on stage.

Hannah earned her BA degree in Modern Languages (Japanese and Spanish) from Beloit College in Wisconsin, and also has a minor in Anthropology. She recently completed a year of AmeriCorps service as a Corps Member for City Year Los Angeles, where she spent a year tutoring and mentoring students at an LAUSD middle school in Boyle Heights. She previously served a summer as an AmeriCorps Vista Associate.

Please introduce yourselves to Sarah and Hannah as you meet them at the reading clubs, committee meetings, and our offices.
