April 1, 2010

Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

We're counting down to blast off for our "From the Earth to the Moon" Reading Clubs happening next Saturday, April 10th, where we'll be taking trips around the globe, to the moon, and beyond! Check out this month's out-of-this-world books here.

Thank you to everyone who signed up for the April Reading Clubs, which are currently full. If you would like to volunteer at the April Reading Clubs, please check back on our website for openings due to cancellations. If you have signed up for the April Reading Clubs but learn you will not be able to attend, please do cancel so that someone else may take your place.

APRIL 24th & 25th

Reading to Kids will be joining thousands of community members, hundreds of organizations, and scores of authors at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.

We need people at our Festival of Books booth to help recruit volunteers and answer questions about Reading to Kids! Click here to see available shifts. Contact Rachel.Zwass @readingtokids.org to sign up. If you have volunteered at our booth in the past and are interested in becoming a shift leader, please let us know!

The Festival of Books is America's largest book festival and takes place once a year on the UCLA campus. The event is free and open to the public on Saturday, April 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, April 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Reading to Kids will be at Booth 137 in Zone A.

Click here to see the panel schedule in case you want to schedule your shifts around particular speakers.

The Reading to Kids Charity Golf Tournament will be a fun day of golf and networking. The format is a scramble tournament, making it easy to play for any level of golfer. The tournament will include fun prizes for top foursomes, holes-in-one, a closest-to-the-pin competition, a long-drive contest, and a raffle.

The tournament began as a competition among business schools called the MBA Masters Golf Classic, and it has expanded to become a charity fundraiser for Reading to Kids. Everyone is welcome to put together teams to participate. Or, register as a single, and we'll partner you up!

Not a golfer? Join us for the 19th Hole post tournament reception for dinner, raffle, and comedy.
