Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Thanks to everyone who volunteered with Reading to Kids at the Festival of Books last weekend!  Our volunteers signed up over 400 new volunteers, handed out over 2,500 bookmarks and brochures, and introduced Reading to Kids to hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of attendees.

Thanks also to all of the volunteers who participated in the Crosswords West Tournament this weekend.  Congratulations to Esperanza Site Coordinator Mark May who placed fourth in the Regular Division!

VOLUNTEER AS A CLASSROOM HELPER

Are you looking for volunteer opportunities during the week?  Do you want to see what a day in the classroom is like?  Now is your chance to visit one of our schools as a classroom helper!

Reading to Kids would like to offer the teacher at each school who recruits the most students to our reading clubs a helper for a day to encourage reading club attendance. Among other things, classroom helpers have the chance to read stories, grade papers, prep assignments, and experience what it's like to be a teacher.

If you are interested in helping out for a day or half day in one of the classrooms, please e-mail Rachel.Zwass@readingtokids.org or call the office at (310) 479-7455. Dates and times are flexible according to your availability.

Many of our partner schools also have needs for volunteer tutors during the week.  If you are interested, contact Rachel.
