Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Thanks to the 305 volunteers who joined us on Saturday to read to 974 kids!  Click here to see a list of June volunteers.

Join us in July!  Click here to sign up for our July 14th Reading Clubs.  The July theme is "Independence and Growing Up" and our books include:

  • Beegu by Alexis Deacon (Kindergarten). As Beegu tries to find her way home, she discovers kindness in an unfamiliar place and shows us our world through the three eyes of an innocent outsider.
  • Guji Guji by Chih-Yuan Chen (2nd grade). A charming story that will have readers and listeners cheering for an unlikely hero as he figures out a way to save both the day and his family.
  • Shredderman: Secret Identity by Wendelin Van Draanen (5th grade). Readers will follow Nolan "Shredderman" Byrd as he creatively schemes to expose the school bully.

BOOK DRIVE AT THE VAKSBERG SALON

A local business is doing big things to help Reading to Kids!  Salon owner Irene Vaksberg has a history of supporting charitable causes, and she is teaming up with Reading to Kids for a month long book drive at her salon!

From now until July 6th, she will offer a complimentary haircut ($75 value) OR conditioning treatment to anyone who brings in 3 or more new children's books for Reading to Kids.  The Vaksberg Salon is located within LaPeer Beauty at 8950 West Olympic Blvd.  For an appointment, call (310) 993-8600.

This is the second book drive Irene Vaksberg has held for Reading to Kids.  In 2005, she collected nearly 400 books in a similar effort.

If you are looking for an excuse to get a new do, give Irene a call!  If you go to the salon, make sure to say thanks!

Thanks, and have a great weekend!
