Reading Clubs May 14th!

Thanks to the wonderful volunteers who made our April 9th "environment"-themed Reading Clubs such a success -- we welcomed about 570 kids and 200 volunteers for a morning of fun! Please click here to see a list of this month's volunteers.

Our special thanks go to the administrative volunteers on-site at each school -- the Site Coordinators, Training Coordinators, Grade Level Coordinators, and Food Runners. These individuals make sure our volunteers are well-organized, well-trained, well-prepared, and well-fed! Many thanks from all of us to these unsung heroes of Reading to Kids!

Make sure you reserve yourself a spot at the
May 14th Reading Clubs
by clicking here to RSVP!

May's theme is "Family." We'll offer reviews of the featured books later on this month, but you're sure to recognize some of the titles, which include "Guess How Much I Love You," "Chicken Sunday," and the soon-to-be-blockbuster (and longtime favorite) "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." Sign up soon to reserve yourself a spot at the Reading Clubs!

Visit Us at the Festival of Books!

Your favorite grassroots organization will be joining thousands of community members, hundreds of organizations, and scores of authors for the first time ever at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books this weekend!

The Festival of Books is the largest literacy fair in the world and takes place once a year on the UCLA campus. This year, the event will be free and open to the public on Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday, April 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Reading to Kids will be at Booth 725 in the Children's Area (across from Dowd Hall; click here to see an event map). Come visit us -- we'll have a team of great volunteers sharing the news about R2K!

Come hear Jason Alexander storytelling at the Target Stage on Saturday; meet Maureen Dowd, Eric Idle, Madeline Albright, or Ray Bradbury; or just walk around and take it all in -- this is not an event to be missed! And, make sure to pre-order your (free) tickets to fantastic panel discussions and lectures. Check out Festival of Books ticketing information by clicking here.
