Reading to Kids is seeking a
full-time Program Director. As the sole paid employee of the agency,
the Program Director will have an exceptional entrepreneurial opportunity
to direct a grassroots nonprofit that will soon be entering its seventh year. The Program Director will work at the Reading to Kids office located at 1600 Sawtelle Blvd., Suite 210, Los Angeles, CA 90025.
This individual must be able to embody the organization?s mission,
inspire others to become involved, and serve as a point-person for
thousands of volunteers and community members. This position offers the
opportunity to help direct the growth of Reading to Kids and to bring the
joy of reading to many more children in Los Angeles.
The Program Director serves in a variety of capacities, including but not
limited to the following:

School Relations |

Liaising with local schools, coordinating each month?s Reading Clubs, and reaching out to potential partner schools. |

Volunteer Coordination |
|
Volunteer recruitment, maintaining relationships with volunteer groups, and ensuring and improving the quality of the Reading to Kids volunteer experience. |

Development and Fundraising |
|
Grant writing; cultivating foundation, corporate, and individual donations; and donor recognition. |

Strategic Planning |
|
Collaboration with the Reading to Kids Taskforce to design and implement strategic plans to extend program?s reach, impact and funding base. |

Community Outreach |
|
Public representation of Reading to Kids at fairs, public school district events, Children?s Literacy Collaborative meetings, and the Adopt-A-School Council. |
? |
Management |
|
Management of the Reading to Kids Taskforce, office volunteers, and interns. |
? |
Board/Taskforce Relations |
|
Participation in Board and Taskforce meetings and involvement with Taskforce committees as a facilitator and coordinator. |

Administration |
|
Maintenance of website, multiple databases and office organizational systems. |
Qualifications for the position include a minimum of a B.A./B.S. degree with at least two years
of experience in the nonprofit sector with fundraising and program management experience.
An ideal candidate will have outstanding written and oral communication skills, exceptional people skills,
a keen attention to detail, an energetic personality, an enthusiasm for the benefits that our program offers,
and a genuine motivation to work toward providing children with an enthusiasm for reading.
Starting salary will be between $40,000 and $45,000 plus benefits.
The position will be available starting July 18, 2005.
