Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,
Our July reading clubs were a hit!
Even though only six of our partner schools were open during the middle of summer, this month 101 kids, 108 volunteers,
10 parents, and 13 teachers & staff
helped to make our July 12th reading clubs a success!

Kindergartners enjoyed hearing Chez Bob, then made bird and alligator crafts.
3rd graders at MacArthur Park used Wisteria seeds, silk floss tree pods, and pipe cleaners to create Monarch Butterfly crafts after enjoying Mr. McGinty's Monarchs!

"When Reading to Kids was founded nearly three decades ago, no one could have predicted the uncertain times our community finds itself in presently.
This morning sixteen students joined us for our July reading clubs. They were thrilled to be here, and parents commented to me how grateful they were for the opportunity to be with others at a time when it is not easy to do so. Sixteen may not sound like an enormous number, but these students got so much out of the experience. The volunteers were so giving in their work with them!
This morning again reminded me of the myriad reasons I am grateful for Reading to Kids, and I am especially grateful during these times.
With gratitude--"
Brad Rumble, Esperanza Elementary Principal 7/12/25

These August reading clubs will be smaller again because the schools will still be on the final weekend of their summer break, so be sure to sign up early! We'll also be giving school supplies to the kids that morning!
Note: Tenth St. Elementary may be closed the weekend of August 9th, so for now we have closed the RSVPs for it.
For our August 9th reading clubs
we encourage you to volunteer at any of Reading to Kids'
other 7 schools! For a map of all of our school sites,
We will email all recent Tenth St. Elementary volunteers if we get to re-open the RSVPs for the August 9th clubs.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR AUGUST 9TH
We want to give school supplies to each kid who attends the August 9th clubs.
We already have most of what we want, but we need your help purchasing from our Amazon wish list a few more items - especially blue bags for the kids to carry home their school supplies that morning!
The above wish list indicates the priority of the items we are hoping to receive from you, and it will update automatically to show only those items we still need.
Please email
us at
info@readingtokids.org or call us at (310) 479-7455 if you have purchased for us any of the items on our wish list. Let's make the first day of school exciting for the kids!

BE A READING TO KIDS AMBASSADOR IN AUGUST!
With the 2025-26 school year beginning August 14th, we will have many opportunities for you to help us promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools as a Reading to Kids Ambassador.
There are three different ways you can help:
Kindergarten Orientations, Teacher Breakfast Deliveries, and
Back-to-School Nights.
We'll supply everything you need, including what to say at the Kindergarten Orientations. Although it's great if you can speak Spanish (even a little), all of our parent materials are bilingual, and there's always someone who can translate for you at the school.
These events set the course for the rest of the year and are
a wonderful way to interact with the
kids, parents, and teachers.
If you have volunteered as a reader with us before and are interested in being an Ambassador, please e-mail us at
info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

HELP US FIND GRANTS!
Did you know Reading to Kids receives about
half of our funding from corporate and foundation
grants? For example, over the last five years alone
seven of our volunteers helped us receive $145,000 in
grants from their employers!
Please check to see if your employer offers grants
that Reading to Kids can apply to and let us know at
info@readingtokids.org!
You may help us buy thousands of books for kids!
