Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Thank you to everyone who made our February Reading Clubs such a success! We had 1,082 kids, 465 volunteers, 81 parents, and 27 teachers and staff join us last Saturday for a wonderful day of Friendship and Family!

Check out our Facebook Group or Twitter feed to see some pictures of crafts the kids were inspired to create!

SIGN UP & RECRUIT FOR
MARCH 8TH READING CLUBS!

As a special treat, some very talented musicians will be performing at each school. Click here to find out who will be performing at your school!

SUPPORT OR JOIN TEAM READING TO KIDS
AT THE ASICS LA MARATHON!

The ASICS LA Marathon is happening on Sunday, March 9th, and Team Reading to Kids can use your support!

If you are not a runner, you can encourage them by donating to our valiant runners' fundraising pages as they strive towards raising money for Reading to Kids!

If you ARE a runner, you can run for Reading to Kids in one of the best marathons in the country. You can run either the full marathon or a half-marathon, and the dollars you raise will go to support our monthly reading clubs. Some of our runners are also training together.

If you or a runner you know is interested in becoming one of our fundraising runners or creating a fundraising team, please email Chris Martin at marathonreadingtokids.org for all the details.

IMPORTANT NOTE: to register to run on behalf of Reading to Kids, you MUST receive a special code BEFORE registering on the ASICS LA Marathon website.

READ ACROSS LOS ANGELES ELEM. MARCH 7TH

To celebrate Read Across America, Los Angeles Elementary School will be joining schools nationwide to commemorate Dr. Seuss' birthday. They would love for you to join them by visiting classrooms and reading a story to our students during their guest reader day on Friday, March 7 (the day before our next reading clubs).

To be a guest reader that day, please download this flyer, complete the bottom portion, then return it via mail, fax, or email by Wednesday, February 26. Please contact Lorena Rodriguez at lxr0850lausd.net or (323) 734-8233 if you have any questions.

Please remember this is separate from our reading clubs on Saturday, March 8th.

PRIZE PATROL

We've started planning this year's fundraising events, and we need your help gathering prizes!

Our events are more fun and raise more money if we have great prizes to award, raffle, and/or auction. Big prizes. Little prizes. Serious prizes. Silly prizes. We need them all! Check out our list of prizes from last year's Silent Auction for ideas.

If you have any prizes, or you know where to get them, let us know! We'd love to have something fabulous for the Silent Auction or for our grand prize Bingo winner -- anything unique or with an autograph is always welcome!

To help you get started, here is a generic donation letter to give to a manager, supervisor, or friend who may be able to donate a gift, product, or service, tips on how to best approach a business or person to donate to our events, and a donation form for the donor to complete.

In the past we have had gift certificates, products, services, and tickets to fun events. If you work at or have a connection with a restaurant, retail store, or for a company with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.

Please also let us know to whom you reach out so we don't accidentally duplicate Special Events Committee efforts in contacting businesses.

Thanks, and we hope to see you at our March 8th Reading Clubs!

Sincerely,

Charlie Orchard, Hannah Edwards, and Sarah Parga
