Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Our March 9th Reading Clubs are just around the corner, and we have just 13 spots remaining! Click here and submit your RSVP today. After you sign up, please also take a moment to join our March 9th Facebook event. Your friends will be able to see that you're attending the reading clubs, and you can help spread the word by inviting them to join, too.

As a special treat, some very talented musicians will be joining us at each school. Click here to find out who will be performing at your school!

If you're signed up but can't join us, please click here to cancel so that someone else may take your place.

READ ACROSS GRATTS MARCH 4TH

To celebrate Read Across America, on Monday, March 4, Gratts Learning Academy for Young Scholars will be holding its annual Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day. This is an all-day event, but the school is asking volunteers to commit to 30 minutes of reading between 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

If you are interested, please contact Ana Lopez at (213) 250-2932 or via email at alopez@ypiusa.org. When you contact her, please let her know your email address, telephone number, grade preference, and time availability on the 4th.

READ ACROSS MAGNOLIA MARCH 11-15TH

To celebrate Read Across America, Magnolia Elementary would love to have you read to the students and share why reading is important to you. The school is looking for volunteers the week of March 11th (except for Thursday). Volunteers are needed throughout the week, and volunteer opportunities are available from 8am-2pm. They are especially looking for readers for March 13th for pajama day! Volunteers will read one book (or one chapter of a book) in a classroom. The more time you have to give, the more classrooms you can visit and the more books you can read aloud!

If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Ana Vega at (213) 748-6281 or alv6378@lausd.net.

EYES ON THE PRIZE(S)

We're starting to plan this year's events, and we need your help gathering prizes!

Our events are more fun and raise more money if we have great prizes to award, raffle, and/or auction. Big prizes. Little prizes. Serious prizes. Silly prizes. We need them all! Check out our list of prizes from last year's Silent Auction for ideas.

If you have any prizes, or you know where to get them, let us know!

The fun starts this May with our annual Legendary Bingo night, and we'd love to have something fabulous for the grand prize winner -- anything unique or with an autograph is always welcome!

To help you get started, here is a generic donation letter to give to a manager, supervisor, or friend who may be able to donate a gift, product, or service, tips on how to best approach a business or person to donate to our events, and a donation form for the donor to complete.

In the past we have had gift certificates, products, services, and tickets to fun events. If you work at or have a connection with a restaurant, retail store, or for a company with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.

Please also let Skylar know to whom you reach out so we don't accidentally duplicate Special Events Committee efforts in contacting businesses.

KNOCK KNOCK...COMEDIANS AND CELEBRITIES WANTED

We need a well-known, headliner comedian for this summer's upcoming Benefit Comedy Night! If you personally know a headliner comedian who would be interested and available for this event at the Hollywood Improv on June 18th, please reply to this email.

We'd also like to have a celebrity host for either our Comedy Night or as a bingo caller for our annual Legendary Bingo night on May 15th. Please reply if you can personally reach out to any celebrities who would like to help your favorite good cause!
