NISEI PARADE - VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED
Los Angeles Elementary School has been invited to be a part of the Grand Parade at the 70th Annual Nisei Week Japanese Festival in Little Tokyo on Sunday, August 15th. The Grand Parade boasts the only Nebuta float, a beautifully crafted float made out of wood and paper and illuminated from the inside, outside of Japan. The students, teachers, and staff at Los Angeles
have invited Reading to Kids volunteers to join them in the honor of walking in the parade.
Inspired by the Leo Lionni classic
Swimmy (a Reading to Kids book selection in 2003), the Los Angeles Elementary Drill Team will walk in the parade with Swimmy the Fish lanterns. We are looking for about 12 volunteers to help out at this event -- holding the lanterns briefly if a child's arms get tired. In particular we are looking for a couple of TALL folks to help with the front of the drill team.
