Program Director Position Available

Reading to Kids is seeking a full-time Program Director. As the lead employee of the two-employee agency, the Program Director will have an exceptional opportunity to direct a grassroots nonprofit organization entering its twelfth year of serving the community. The Program Director will work at the Reading to Kids office located at 1600 Sawtelle Blvd., Suite 210, Los Angeles, CA 90025.

This individual must be able to embody the organization’s mission, inspire others to become involved, and serve as a point-person for thousands of volunteers and community members. This position offers the opportunity to help direct the growth of Reading to Kids and to bring the joy of reading to many more children in Los Angeles.

The Program Director serves in a variety of capacities, including but not limited to the following:

Management   Manage the Program Coordinator, the Reading to Kids Taskforce, office volunteers, and interns.
Development and Fundraising   Write grant proposals; cultivate foundation, corporate, and individual donations; donor recognition; coordinate fundraising events.
School Relations   Work with our current partner schools to coordinate the reading club program; reach out to potential partner schools.
Community Outreach Represent Reading to Kids at fairs, school events, and meetings.  Outreach to community organizations, individuals, and businesses.
Volunteer Coordination Recruit volunteers, maintain relationships with volunteer groups, and work to improve the quality of the Reading to Kids volunteer experience.
Strategic Planning Collaborate with the Reading to Kids Taskforce to design and implement strategic plans to extend program's reach, impact, and funding base.
Board/Taskforce Relations Participate in Board and Taskforce meetings; facilitate and coordinate Taskforce committees.
Administration Maintain website, multiple databases, and office organizational systems.

Qualifications for the position should include a minimum of a B.A./B.S. degree with at least three years of experience in the nonprofit sector with fundraising and program management experience. An ideal candidate will have outstanding written and oral communication skills, exceptional people skills, a keen attention to detail, an energetic personality, an enthusiasm for the benefits that our program offers, and a genuine motivation to work toward providing children with an enthusiasm for reading.

Starting salary will be between $47,000 and $55,000 plus benefits, depending on experience level.  The position will be available in mid-August 2010.
