Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,
Yesterday marked the 9 year anniversary of the first reading clubs at Gratts Elementary (8 volunteers and 20 kids on May 8, 1999). Nine years later, our May 2008 reading clubs will involve 8 schools, over 400 volunteers, and over 1,000 kids!
Celebrate our anniversary by signing up for this Saturday's reading clubs! We still need volunteers, especially at Gratts and Magnolia Elementary Schools! Click here to sign up.
Reading to Kids has grown over the years due to the dedication of people like you. People who are interested in inspiring kids to read. People who are willing to volunteer their time to give back to the community. Even people who just subscribe to our e-mail updates to get the latest news about Reading to Kids.
At Reading to Kids, we have worked hard to make the reading club experience as rewarding as it can be for everyone involved:
For the kids, we read them teacher-selected books, provide them with activities and books to read while they wait for the reading clubs to begin, and give them brand new paperback books to take home and add to their libraries.
For the parents, each month, we work with the teachers at the schools to put on training sessions involving literacy, community resources, or other topics of interest to the parents.
For the volunteers, we aim each month to provide them with an efficient, streamlined experience that values and respects the time they spend with us on a Saturday morning.
For the teachers and administrators, we bring to their campuses dedicated volunteers who are there to build off of the work they do during the week.
For our friends and supporters, we work hard to maintain an organization of which they can be proud.
Come join us at El Cholo after the May reading clubs for appetizers to celebrate the 9 year anniversary of our first reading clubs!
