Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Would your co-workers love to join you at the reading clubs? Is your campus group looking for a fun volunteer opportunity? Does your alumni organization need an event to attend together? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, it is time to sign them up for Reading to Kids!

Reading to Kids Volunteer Groups recruit volunteers for the reading clubs. In addition to a fantastic volunteer experience, groups who regularly recruit and bring volunteers are thanked on our website as "Friends & Supporters." For examples, check out Ernst & Young (2 volunteers signed up for October), University of Michigan Alumni Club of Los Angeles (4 volunteers signed up for October), and CSUDH Circle K International (3 volunteers signed up for October).

If you have a connection with a business, alumni association, campus group, or other organization whose members might enjoy volunteering with Reading to Kids, start recruiting now!  Click here for flyers, brochures, and other recruitment materials!

To sign your group up with Reading to Kids, e-mail Sarah.Kolterman@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

OCTOBER 13TH READING CLUBS

With only a week to go, we still need over 200 volunteers for our October 13th "Halloween, Magic, and Mysteries" Reading Clubs!  Click here to sign up!

First graders will sing along with a boy and his father to save their town from a stinky, slobbery monster in Abiyoyo by Pete Seeger.

Third graders will look for the perfect Halloween costume along with Kimin in Behind the Mask by Yangsook Choi.

Fourth graders will meet the Headless Horseman along with Ichabod Crane in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving.

To help bring our theme to life, we will be featuring a live magic show during the close of the reading clubs!  We still need one more magician to perform!  Click here to see who is already helping out, and contact Sarah.Kolterman@readingtokids.org if you are able and willing to perform!

2007 ANNUAL FUND DRIVE: SHARE THE POWER OF READING

THANK YOU to those who have already sent in contributions!  Donations are arriving every day, and whether they are for $10 or $1,000, these donations play a crucial role in helping us work toward inspiring underserved children with a love of reading.

In 2007, we have received over $7,500 in donations from individuals and have a total of 100 donors.  However, we are still a long way from our goal of $35,000 and 600 donors.

Your donation, whatever the size, MATTERS! A gift of just $10 can provide half a dozen children with their own softcover book to add to their home libraries.

Please consider participating in our Annual Fund Drive and helping this organization grow.  To join your fellow volunteers in donating to Reading to Kids, please click here.  For information or materials to help you fundraise for Reading to Kids, click here.
