Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,
Thanks to everyone who volunteered with Reading to Kids at the Festival of Books and BIG SUNDAY last weekend!
At the Festival of Books, our 37 volunteers signed up over 200 new volunteers, handed out over 1,500 bookmarks and brochures, and introduced ourselves to hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of attendees.
Over at Magnolia Elementary School for BIG SUNDAY, volunteers planted trees and bushes at the front of the school, sorted over 2,000 books from a book drive for Magnolia students, and helped children decorate flower pots to give to local seniors with Alzheimer's Disease.

L.A. WORKS DAY 2007!
Reading to Kids is once again organizing a team of volunteers for L.A. Works Day and we would love to see you there!
Join us on June 2nd for L.A. Works Day 2007 for a rewarding day of community service. Thousands of people will congregate at Cal Plaza downtown before heading out to volunteer sites all over the city. We are working with the L.A. Works staff to arrange for a special project for the Reading to Kids team in memory of our long-time volunteer (also an L.A. Works volunteer and elementary school teacher) Helga Hung (http://readingtokids.org/Tribute/HelgaHung.html).
The Reading to Kids team will probably do projects at a local school - interactive activities with the kids, painting, landscaping, etc. Your effort will be rewarded afterward with great food and live music. The entire family is welcome!
Date: June 2, 2007 Time: 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Place: California Plaza 350 S. Grand Ave, L.A. 90071
Click here to sign up. If you are not already an L.A. Works volunteer, you will need to complete a quick registration form. After logging in, click on the "Join a public team" button then select "Reading to Kids." Note that the $25 registration fee has been waived for Reading to Kids volunteers.
