Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,
Thanks to the 205 volunteers who joined us on Saturday to read to 506 kids! Click here to see a list of June volunteers.
Thanks to everyone who helped kick off our first reading clubs at Hoover Elementary. The reading clubs were a big success with 148 kids, 53 volunteers, 41 parents, and 18 teachers and administrators attending!
Join us in July! Click here to sign up for our July 8th Reading Clubs. The July theme is "Independence and Growing Up" and our books include Zathura by Chris Van Allsburg in 4th grade and We the Kids by David Catrow in 3rd grade. Click here to see the full list of July books. Discussion questions and craft suggestions will be posted soon.
HELP PUBLICIZE READING TO KIDS!
Reading to Kids relies on hundreds of volunteers each month to make our reading clubs a success. Many of these volunteers hear about the reading clubs from alumni groups, community organizations, campus clubs, or company newsletters. While Reading to Kids has relationships with many local volunteer groups, we know that you, our volunteers, have connections to thousands more. Through the summer months and as we expand to new schools, we would love to have your help in inviting these groups to join us at the reading clubs!
If you have a connection with a business, alumni association, or other organization whose members might enjoy volunteering with Reading to Kids, please contact me at Jessica.Tritsch@readingtokids.org to help us to spread the word!
WELCOME SUMMER INTERNS
This summer, Reading to Kids is fortunate to have four fantastic summer interns! Natthanit Srichankrad, Yessenia Torres, Adrienne Tygenhof, and Melarie Wheat will be helping out in the Reading to Kids office and at the reading clubs throughout this summer.
Natthanit joins us from UCLA, where she is studying International Development Studies. Yessenia just finished her first year at Bowdoin College in Maine, where she is studying Gender and Women's Studies. Adrienne graduated last month from LMU with a B.A. in Political Science. Melarie Wheat joins us from Brigham Young University in Utah, where she'll be graduating in August with a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology.
Make sure to say hello and thank them for all of their hard work when you see them at our summer reading clubs!
Also, for those of you interested in interning with Reading to Kids, we will have fall internships available starting in September. Please contact me if you are interested!
