Reading to Kids News July 25, 2002 Thanks to July Reading Club Participants July was another successful month for the reading club program. 159 volunteers read to 464 children (a record number of kids!) at Gratts Elementary and Magnolia Elementary Schools on Saturday, July 13. The theme of the month was "Schools," and children were read a variety of books featuring school themes, including the hilarious A Fine, Fine School, by Newberry Medal-winning author Sharon Creech, and the chapter book, Wayside School Gets a Little Stranger, by Louis Sachar. The books read to the children were subsequently donated to each school's library. Your generous donations help to sponsor the library-building efforts of Reading to Kids and are greatly appreciated. Office Donations Welcomed Charla King of doingsomething donated a FAX machine to Reading to Kids a few weeks ago, thus allowing us to cross another item off our Office Wish List! We currently have an urgent need for tall book shelves to organize the hundreds of prize books that will be given out to children at upcoming reading clubs, and we are in short supply of 3" x 2" clear plastic name tag holders for the volunteer readers. Although we reuse these name tag holders each month, we occasionally need to replace the few that become damaged or are lost. We are always happy to accept donations of office supplies such as paper, printers, copiers, computers, etc. Anything that we can't use will be donated to the kids at Gratts and Magnolia Elementary Schools. |
