Saturday Reading Club Itinerary

8:30 - 9:00 a.m.  •  Volunteers sign-in, enjoy breakfast, mingle, and peruse the reading club books. New volunteers should arrive by 8:45 a.m., returning volunteers should arrive no later than 9:00 a.m.

9:00 - 9:30 a.m.  •  New volunteers attend a training session that begins at 9:00 a.m.  •  Returning volunteers discuss past reading club experiences and start developing discussion topics and craft ideas.  •  Returning volunteers attend a training session that begins at 9:15 a.m.

9:30 - 10:00 a.m.  •  New and returning volunteers prepare for the reading club sessions together.  •  Children start signing in.  •  Grade level coordinators guide discussion, answer questions, and help to finalize volunteer pairings.

10:00 - 11:30 a.m.  •  Children are assigned to volunteers, and the reading clubs are held in classrooms.  •  Teachers or Site Coordinators roam the hallways to ensure everything is running smoothly.  •  Parents participate in teacher-led training session.

11:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon  •  Children and volunteers assemble in the auditorium.  •  After the children are dismissed, volunteers participate in a 15-minute debriefing session.

12:00 - 1:30 p.m.  •  Volunteers often meet for lunch at El Cholo on Western Ave. after the reading clubs. Click here for more information.
