Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

We had a spooktacular time at last Saturday's "Magic & Monsters" reading clubs- 298 kids, 163 volunteers, 83 parents, and 16 teachers & staff helped to make our October 10th reading clubs a howling success!

For the second month in a row, 25% of the entire student body of Charles White Elementary joined us at these reading clubs!

We also thank several of the volunteers for tagging us in their Instagram stories from Saturday!

Many of the kids enjoyed creating Halloween crafts, including the 1st graders who created their own paper bag monsters after enjoying That Monster on the Block.

We also thank the six wonderfully entertaining magicians (several from the Westside Wizards) who made the reading clubs so memorable this month!

November is our college spirit month, so dig out your college sweatshirts and ball caps to wear that morning as we see which college shows the most spirit!

Note about MacArthur Park Elementary:

They still have an interim principal, so for now we have closed the RSVPs for MacArthur Park. We will email all recent MacArthur Park Elementary volunteers if we get to open the RSVPs for the Nov. 14th clubs.

For our November 14th reading clubs we encourage you to volunteer at any of Reading to Kids' other schools! For a map of all of our school sites, click here.

BIG NEWS - WE'RE EXPANDING TO TWO NEW SCHOOLS!

Map of Reading to Kids partner schools, with arrows indicating Commonwealth Ave. Elementary and Wilshire Park Elementary are new schools

We are thrilled to announce that at our November 14th reading clubs we will begin reading at two new partner schools, Commonwealth Avenue Elementary and Wilshire Park Elementary!

Click the above links to see where each school is located near our other partner schools (you may have to refresh your web browser to see the updated map that includes them).

This is the first time we are opening two new schools in the same month! Please help inspire students at Commonwealth and Wilshire Park with a love of reading by signing up to volunteer for this momentous occasion! This is your chance to be at a first reading club at one of our schools!

Note about Nov. 14th volunteer spots: We plan to open more spots at some schools as we determine if we can expect more kids to join us that morning, especially at these first reading clubs at our two new schools.

Thus, if you find your school already filled this week, please sign up for any of our other schools, or keep checking back to see if we have opened new spots at your preferred school.

IMPORTANT: If you are already signed up for another school for November 14th and you want to switch to Commonwealth or Wilshire Park Elem., please contact us at info@readingtokids.org.

For each new school we will also need two toasters for bagels and a coffee pot that can brew at least 20 cups of coffee at a time. If you can donate any of those, please let us know!

HELP! MORE SITE COORDINATORS &
SITE OPERATIONS HELPERS
URGENTLY NEEDED NOV. 14TH

Charles White Elem. volunteers wearing Halloween costumes
Volunteers at White Elem.

With only three employees at Reading to Kids, you can see we rely on dedicated Site Coordinators to keep our program running smoothly each month - especially next month when we are expanding to two new schools!

We urgently need experienced volunteers to take on more leadership with us by checking in volunteers as they arrive, helping train new and returning volunteers, being a GLC, or especially being a Site Operations Helper at any of our schools.

We are particularly looking for experienced volunteers to fill the above roles at Commonwealth Elem. or Wilshire Park Elem.

If you can help in any of those roles at any of our schools, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to help create wonderful reading clubs!

ANNUAL FUND DRIVE LAUNCH
& CURRENT LEADERS!

Reading to Kids Annual Fund Drive

Our sincere thank you to everyone who helped us kick off our 2026 Annual Fund Drive, including 57 volunteers this past Saturday who together donated $4,268!

The names of these donors have already been added to our 2026 Annual Fund Drive page, and here are the school competition stats so far:

SCHOOL COMPETITION LEADERS!

Highest percentage of volunteers who donated at the Oct. 10th reading clubs:
1st: Alta Loma (a remarkable 65%!)
2nd: Politi (58%!)
3rd: Magnolia (48%)

Highest dollar amount raised at the Oct. 10th reading clubs:
1st: Alta Loma ($1,574!)
2nd: Magnolia ($1,020)
3rd: Politi ($948)

All of these donations will be doubled, tripled, or quadrupled by our matching donors at every school!

Our overall goal by the end of the year is to raise $75,000 from 500 donors.

Here's how you can help, with your donations being counted towards the school competition:

1) Make a pledge to donate by check or donate online today by visiting our 2026 Annual Fund Drive. Contributions of any amount are greatly appreciated!

2) Show your support by asking friends and family to contribute! Visit our 2026 Annual Fund Drive page and look under the "Help us Fundraise!" header for resources, including information on creating your own personalized fundraising page on Facebook, our handy donor sheet for raising money with your friends and co-workers, tips for fundraising, and so much more.

Once they know about Reading to Kids, many of your friends and family will want to donate - we just need you to ask!

Also, if your workplace matches donations to nonprofits, please share with them your donation, and ask them to consider matching it. In this way you double your donation and share with others your enthusiasm for Reading to Kids!
