Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Two weeks ago the LA Times published another article about the wonderful greenery added to Esperanza Elementary: "One L.A. school trades asphalt for trees and grass".

Students and Principal Brad Rumble describe how much their campus has improved with the recent additions of garden spaces, which add wonderful places to play sports and enjoy a good book!

October has arrived, and 174 of our supporters have already signed up for our biggest reading clubs of the year!

Our October 10th "Magic & Monsters" reading clubs may be full at the moment, but people's plans and they need to cancel - so please keep checking our website over the next eight days to see if a spot has opened up for you! We can also use your help as a School Ambassador!

(If you signed up for the reading clubs but can't join us, please cancel your RSVP now so that another volunteer can read with us.)

Note about MacArthur Park Elementary:

They still have an interim principal, so we have closed the RSVPs for MacArthur Park.

For our October 10th reading clubs we encourage you to volunteer at any of Reading to Kids' other schools! For a map of all of our school sites, click here.

We also eagerly look forward to these magicians performing at the reading clubs!

We also encourage all volunteers to dress up in school-appropriate Halloween costumes!

Experienced volunteers only:

When our reading clubs are full, they are only really full for those who want to read to the kids.

For those experienced volunteers who are open to it, we can add in your RSVP as a a second or third Site Coordinator or Site Operations Helper at any of our schools.

If the schools are full you might not get to read when you fill any of the above roles, but you still get to participate in creating a magical experience for the kids and volunteers that morning!

For October 10th, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org if you can help!

13.1 MILE CHARITY HALF MARATHON,
OR LA 5K!

Team Reading to Kids LA Marathon runners

Do you know any runners? Are you a runner? Please forward this email to them and ask them to join Team Reading to Kids in the 2027 Los Angeles Marathon or 13.1 Mile Charity Half Marathon on Sunday, March 7th!

Team Reading to Kids logo

This is our 14th time running the marathon, and we're looking for seven more Charity Half Marathon runners (the last 13.1 miles of the course) and four more full marathon runners to join us in one of the best marathons in the country.

If either of those distances is too daunting, you can join us in the LA 5K (that's just 3.1 miles) near Dodger Stadium the day before the marathon on Saturday, March 6th. We have three more 5K spots left!

If you or a runner you know is interested in becoming one of our fundraising runners or creating a fundraising team, please email Chris Martin at marathon@readingtokids.org!

IMPORTANT NOTE: To register to run on behalf of Reading to Kids, you MUST receive from us a special web address to use when registering on the Los Angeles Marathon website.
