Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,
We had several cancelations last night for our August 8th "Back to School Fun" reading clubs this Saturday, so we have volunteer spots open for you! 
Please
click here to sign up now, or to see if we have openings today or tomorrow until 3pm, since we expect to have a few more cancelations.
(If you signed up for the reading clubs but can't join us,
please
cancel your RSVP now so that another volunteer can read with us.)
We especially need a few more of our experienced volunteers to help as Training Coordinators, Check-In Helpers, & Site Operations Helpers.
A note about MacArthur Park and White Elementary:
Those two schools are closed the weekend.
For this Saturday's reading clubs
we encourage you to volunteer at any of Reading to Kids'

These August reading clubs are smaller again because the schools are still on the final weekend of their summer break. Thanks to your generosity, we'll also be giving blue bags of school supplies to the kids this Saturday morning!

READING TO KIDS AMBASSADORS
NEEDED NEXT TUESDAY MORNING
& ONWARDS TO HELP
KICK OFF THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR!
With the 2026-27 school year beginning August 12th, we already have many opportunities for you to help us promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools as a Reading to Kids Ambassador.
There are three different ways you can help:

Kindergarten Orientations (starting next Monday!)
-
Teacher Welcome Breakfast Deliveries to six schools next Tue. morning at 7am!

Back-to-School Nights
We'll supply everything you need, including what to say at the Kindergarten Orientations. Although it's great if you can speak Spanish (even a little), all of our parent materials are bilingual, and there's always someone who can translate for you at the school.
These events set the course for the rest of the year and are
a wonderful way to interact with the
kids, parents, and teachers. There are always more events than the three of us in the office can manage alone, so we'll really need help!

SEVEN COMPUTERS OR TABLETS
WANTED TO GIVE TO KIDS!
Looking way ahead to a future reading club, we would love to give away a computer or iPad/tablet to one lucky kid at each school!
If you or your employer have any working computers that are less than 6 years old running Windows 10 or later, or any Macintosh computers less than 7 years old, or any iPads or similar tablets, we can give them to deserving kids!
We especially need working computers (CPUs), whether or not they come with monitors, keyboards, etc. Please email us at

Our next Legendary Bingo fundraiser at
Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood will be on Wednesday, October 21st. Please help us gather new prizes for auctions and bingo winners that night!
To help you get started, here is information about Reading to Kids to share with potential donors, as well as a donation form for them to complete.
We especially enjoy awarding gift certificates,
amusement park and theater tickets, gift bags, and
autographed items! Anything unique is great, too!
If you work at or have a connection with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.
You may have gift cards you haven't used which would make excellent prizes if you'd like to donate them to us! E-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to arrange mailing them to us!

HELP US FIND GRANTS!
Did you know Reading to Kids receives about half of our funding from corporate and foundation grants? For example, over the last five years alone seven of our volunteers helped us receive nearly $170,000 in grants from their employers!
Please check to see if your employer offers grants that Reading to Kids can apply to and let us know at info@readingtokids.org!
You may help us buy thousands of books for kids!
