Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Even though last Saturday fell on the first weekend of the kids' summer break, 169 kids, 134 volunteers, 30 parents, and 14 teachers & staff helped to make our June 13th reading clubs a summer success! stars icon stars icon

2nd graders made crafts after hearing Dough Knights and Dragons. We also thank Politi volunteer Brittni Hamilton and the Black Women Lawyers Los Angeles for donating the below stack of prize books!

The volunteers at Alta Loma also came together to rescue a very good boy they found abandoned on campus that morning. Thank you, everyone, and you can see many of those Alta Loma volunteers in the photo in the red box below! blue heart icon

JULY 11TH
SUMMER READING CLUBS

Please be sure to sign up for the next reading clubs!   Click here to submit your RSVP for our "Amazing Animals" clubs!

Our summer reading clubs will be smaller, so sign up early for July 11th and mark your calendars for August 8th. Let's keep students reading throughout the summer!

Note about July 11th volunteer spots: We are starting out this week with only nine volunteer reader spots at each school, since we will probably combine the summer kids into K/1st, 2nd/3rd, and 4th/5th grade groups.

We hope to be able to open more spots at some schools as we determine if we can expect more kids to join us in the middle of their summer break.

Thus, if you find your school already filled this week, please sign up for any of our other schools, or keep checking back to see if we have opened new spots at your preferred school.

Note about Gratts, MacArthur Park, and White Elementary:

Those three schools may be closed the weekend of July 11th, but you are encouraged to sign up for them in case they will be open to us that morning. We will let anyone signed up for those schools know if any end up being closed to us.

EXPERIENCED VOLUNTEERS ONLY:
STEP UP TO A BIGGER VOLUNTEER ROLE NEXT MONTH

When our reading clubs are full, they are only really full for those who want to read to the kids.

For those experienced volunteers who are open to it, we can add in your RSVP as a Volunteer Check-In Helper, Training Coordinator, a GLC, or especially being a second or third Site Coordinator or Site Operations Helper at any of our schools.

If the schools are full you might not get to read when you fill any of the above roles, but you still get to participate in creating a magical experience for the kids and volunteers that morning!

Summer is a great time to ease into any of those roles. If you can help in any of them, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to help create wonderful reading clubs! stars icon stars icon

PLEASE HELP US FIND
MORE BINGO PRIZES & AUCTION ITEMS

Reading to Kids' Legendary Bingo fundraiser at Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood

Our next Legendary Bingo fundraiser at Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood will be on Wednesday, October 21st. Please help us gather new prizes for auctions and bingo winners that night!

To help you get started, here is information about Reading to Kids to share with potential donors, as well as a donation form for them to complete.

We especially enjoy awarding gift certificates, amusement park and theater tickets, gift bags, and autographed items! Anything unique is great, too!

If you work at or have a connection with products or services to offer, please help us by asking for a donation to our events.

You may have gift cards you haven't used which would make excellent prizes if you'd like to donate them to us! E-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to arrange mailing them to us!

HELP US FIND GRANTS!

Destiny Williams Doers for Dollars at her employer, Kemper

Did you know Reading to Kids receives about half of our funding from corporate and foundation grants? For example, over the last five years alone seven of our volunteers helped us receive $160,000 in grants from their employers!

Please check to see if your employer offers grants that Reading to Kids can apply to and let us know at info@readingtokids.org! You may help us buy thousands of books for kids!
