Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

The kids create so many wonderful crafts each month, including these at our last reading clubs!

2nd graders delighted in Ra Pu Zel and the Stinky Tofu, then created their own figures at Esperanza Elementary.

After Kindergartners and 3rd graders enjoyed The Bakery Dragon and The Fairy Tale Fixers: Cinderella respectively, they drew dinosaurs, castles, and heroes!

A 3rd grader at MacArthur Park drew by himself that pencil sketch of a character with flames in his hands! Click on any of the above images to see them full size.

JUNE 13TH
SUMMER READING CLUBS

In June we celebrate "Friendship & Fun" at our reading clubs on June 13th! stars icon stars icon

4th grade books at Charles White Elem.

All of our volunteer spots are probably full, but since people's plans change and they realize they need to cancel, please keep checking www.readingtokids.org over the next two weeks for any cancellations!

(If you are signed up for the June 13th reading clubs but can't join us, please cancel your RSVP now so that another volunteer can take your place.)

Experienced volunteers only:

We need another experienced volunteer at Gratts Elementary to read to 4th or 5th graders there as the GLC!

If you have volunteered with us at least three times recently and are willing to be the GLC there on June 13th, email us at info@readingtokids.org and we will add in your RSVP!

For that morning we're also looking for those willing to be the:

- Check-in Helper at Magnolia or Politi
- Site Operations Helper at 8am at any school - your Site Coordinators always welcome help!

You can read about those roles here and email info@readingtokids.org if you want to help in any, even if your school is full! stars icon stars icon

If the schools are full you might not get to read when you fill any of the above roles, but you still get to participate in creating a magical experience for the kids and volunteers that morning!

Our smaller summer reading clubs are great times to step into any of these important roles - all training pleasantly provided!

SCHOOL AMBASSADORS WANTED
NEXT MONDAY & TUESDAY,
LAST DAYS OF THE SCHOOL YEAR!

Sample flyers

The school year ends next Wednesday, before our June 13th reading clubs. Thus, this Monday, June 8th & Tuesday, June 9th we need ambassadors to visit any of our schools for an hour during the school day to encourage kids to come to the June 13th reading clubs!

It's a lot of fun, so please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org if you can be an ambassador for an hour either of those days! clock icon

HELP US FIND GRANTS!

Reading to Kids Program Coordinators receiving a donation check

Did you know Reading to Kids receives about half of our funding from corporate and foundation grants? For example, over the last five years alone seven of our volunteers helped us receive $160,000 in grants from their employers!

Please check to see if your employer offers grants that Reading to Kids can apply to and let us know at info@readingtokids.org! You may help us buy thousands of books for kids!

Thanks, and please keep checking www.readingtokids.org over the next eight days to sign up for our June 13th reading clubs!

Sincerely,

Charlie Orchard, Yancy Rodriguez Coe, & Anna Davies
