Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

RECENT PROTESTS IN PARTS OF LOS ANGELES
While Downtown LA may be especially active this Saturday, our June reading clubs will still take place as planned. Our partner schools are located outside the protest areas and staff are prepared to provide a safe space for kids and volunteers.
We may see fewer kids this Saturday, but for those who do join us, we want their morning to be filled with stories, creativity, and laughter. With "Friendship & Fun" as our theme this month, we’re excited to create moments of connection and joy for every child who attends.
LAUSD has shared that all schools will remain open during summer, and we're committed to being a steady, supportive presence for the children who show up.
We are closely monitoring LAUSD communications that may affect our partner schools. We will let you know of any changes to this Saturday's reading clubs via email,
X/Twitter, Bluesky,
Facebook, and
Instagram.
This Saturday's Friendship & Fun reading clubs are probably full, but
please keep checking for new openings today and tomorrow before 3pm since a few people often realize they need to cancel.
(If you signed up for the reading clubs but can't join us,
please
cancel your RSVP now so that another volunteer can sign up in your place.)
These June reading clubs are smaller because the schools are on their summer break.
Mark your calendars for July 12th and August 9th as we keep students enjoying books throughout the summer!
SIX MORE LEADERS WANTED: GLC, TRAINING COORDINATORS, CHECK-IN HELPERS, AND SITE OPERATIONS HELPERS
This Saturday is the perfect time for those who have volunteered with us a few times recently to step into and learn any of our important Operations roles - all training very pleasantly provided!
We can't guarantee you'll get to read this Saturday, but please e-mail us at
info@readingtokids.org if you can volunteer for any of the following roles:
- GLC at Politi (K) or Tenth St. (3rd)
- Returning Volunteer Training Coordinator at Tenth St.
- Check-in Helper at Gratts, Mac. Park, or White
- Site Operations Helper at any school - your Site Coordinators need your help at 8am!

There are tons of things that need to be done in the office for every reading club, as well as general office work. If you or someone you trust is interested and available during weekdays, please

HELP US FIND GRANTS!
Did you know Reading to Kids receives about
half of our funding from corporate and foundation
grants? For example, over the last five years alone
seven of our volunteers helped us receive $142,000 in
grants from their employers!
Please check to see if your employer offers grants
that Reading to Kids can apply to and let us know at
info@readingtokids.org!
You may help us buy thousands of books for kids!
