March 13, 2025

Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Last Saturday we had 373 kids, 220 volunteers, 93 parents, and 22 teachers & staff enjoy books, crafts, and music at our festive March 8th reading clubs!

We deeply thank and appreciate all of the dedicated and wonderfully engaging musicians who entertained on Saturday!

If you look very carefully in the above-right photo you may be able to spot musician Coach Kody as he and his DJ pose with all of the volunteers at White Elementary! Click on any of the above images to see them full size.

Click this link to our 2025 musicians page for even more photos from Saturday's performances! Keep an eye on our Instagram for photos and videos we are still receiving of those performances!

BE LIKE KAT & MAGGIE:
OPERATIONS VOLUNTEERS
NEEDED APRIL 12TH

With only three employees at Reading to Kids, you can see we rely on dedicated Site Coordinators to keep our program running smoothly each month.

We urgently need experienced volunteers to take on more leadership with us by checking in volunteers as they arrive, helping train new and returning volunteers, being a GLC, or especially being a Site Operations Helper at any of our schools.

If you can help in any of those roles, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to help create wonderful reading clubs!

FINAL DAYS TO DONATE TO AND CHEER ON
OUR BIG 5K & MARATHON RUNNERS!

Kimberly Morris running while dressed as a banana
Runners Chris Martin, Kimberly Morris, and Atticus Simmons
at the Tenth St. Elem. reading clubs last Saturday!

Team Reading to Kids has until this Sunday to reach their ambitious $20,000 fundraising goal!

Please donate a buck a mile today as they prepare to run the LA 5K this Saturday and the Los Angeles Marathon this Sunday!

Several of our Team Reading to Kids marathon runners are running the LA Marathon for the 10 or 11th time in support of Reading to Kids!

At this year's LA Marathon on Sunday, Kimberly Morris is doing something especially epic - she'll be attempting to break the record for the fastest marathon run by a woman dressed as a banana!

They have been training for months over hundreds of miles, and so far our runners have raised $9,191 in support of our monthly reading clubs.

Your donation will make all their months and miles of training pay off in books for the kids we serve!

With every mile they train and every dollar they raise, these valiant souls help you inspire kids with a love of reading.

During the LA 5K and marathon this weekend, look for the runners in the white shirts (front of the shirts on the left below, back of the shirts on the right below).

And of course, watch for Kimberly running as a banana!

CHEER ON OUR LA 5K RUNNERS
THIS SATURDAY, MARCH 15TH AT 6:45AM!

Come cheer on the LA 5K Running for Reading to Kids Team this Saturday as they run near Dodger Stadium!

We will be there starting at 6:30 am. Arrive before 7:30 am to avoid the crowds and provide time to walk from your car to the beginning of the race route.

Parking for the LA 5K is free, and you can meet our LA 5K runners at 6:45 am at this location next to the picnic tables marked in blue below (click the below image to see a larger version). The race starts at 8am and will probably end by 9am.

Where to meet our LA 5K runners

Getting to the LA 5K race: Due to street closures for the LA 5K, only two entrances will be open to Dodger Stadium: Sunset Gate A, accessible via Sunset Blvd., and Downtown Gate E, accessible via CA-110. These gates will open at 5:30 am. (Note: The Golden State Gate, accessible via I-5, will be closed due to street closures.)

Please email us at marathon@readingtokids.org if you can cheer them on this Saturday - or simply show up!

We especially need working computers (CPUs), whether or not they come with monitors, keyboards, etc. Please email us at info@readingtokids.org to help make a kid very happy!
