Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Our school year is fully back in swing, with 369 kids, 172 volunteers, 80 parents, and 23 teachers & staff participating in last Saturday's September 14th reading clubs! 17% of the entire student body of MacArthur Park Elementary joined us that Saturday!

Amongst the many crafts the kids were inspired to create, 1st graders enjoyed creating fire-breathing dragons after hearing Aaron Slater, Illustrator!

NOON - 8PM

Reading to Kids Beach Day flyer

Time for more fun in the sun! Spend any part of this Sunday afternoon at Dockweiler Beach with your fellow Reading to Kids volunteers this Sunday, September 22nd, from Noon - 8pm. Let us know you are coming at our Facebook event!

The main entrance address is 12000 Vista del Mar, Los Angeles, CA 90293. We will be near Lifeguard Station #57, and our precise location on the beach will be posted that day to our Facebook page at facebook.com/readingtokids and on our X (formerly Twitter) at x.com/readingtokids )

We'll be soaking up the last bit of summer with sun, sand, plenty of refreshments, and games! Just look for the large blue canopy tent!

Please feel free to bring:

- Refreshments (and any food/beverage supplies you'll need)
- Towels
- Sunscreen! (don’t forget!)
- Anything else to enjoy the day! (See below for exceptions)

There’s a great bike path that runs through Dockweiler up through Marina Del Rey, all the way to the Palisades. Dogs are NOT allowed on the beach, but they are allowed in the parking lots and along the bike path, as long as they are on leash.

The large beach parking lots charge $13 on weekends, although you may be able to find limited street parking in the vicinity. That day we’ll be posting a GPS pinpoint to help find us on our Facebook page and on Twitter, and you can just look for the tent, too.

We must follow the beach rules:

NO Animals
NO Cooking
NO Diving
NO Loud Music
NO Glass containers
NO Solicitation, sales, or advertising
NO Alcohol
NO Smoking
NO Littering

See you there!

FIVE MORE RUNNERS NEEDED
FOR THE 2025 LA MARATHON,
13.1 MILE CHARITY CHALLENGE,
OR LA 5K!

Do you know any runners? Are you a runner? Please forward this email to them and ask them to join Team Reading to Kids in the 2025 Los Angeles Marathon or 13.1 Mile Charity Challenge on Sunday, March 16th!

Team Reading to Kids logo

This is our 11th time running the marathon, and we're looking for five Charity Challenge runners (the last 13.1 miles of the course) and more full marathon runners to join us in one of the best marathons in the country.

If either of those distances is too daunting, you can join us in the LA 5K (that's just 3.1 miles) near Dodger Stadium the day before the marathon on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

If you or a runner you know is interested in becoming one of our fundraising runners or creating a fundraising team, please email Chris Martin at marathon@readingtokids.org!

IMPORTANT NOTE: To register to run on behalf of Reading to Kids, you MUST receive from us a special web address to use when registering on the Los Angeles Marathon website.
