Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Happy Thanksgiving Eve - and wow do we have exciting news!

THANK YOU DWIGHT STUART YOUTH FUND

Dwight Stuart Youth Fund logo

Over the past two weeks we were awarded three grants. The first we'll tell you about this week is a $25,000 grant from the Dwight Stuart Youth Fund!

This is the 12th grant they have awarded us since 2002 - that's two decades of partnering to enrich the lives and futures of the kids you read to with us every month! Working together we have given away more than 280,000 books and provided the inspiration to read them!

JOIN US & RECRUIT FOR OUR
BIG DECEMBER 9TH READING CLUBS:
SANTA CLAUS IS JOINING US!

Our big "Family & The Spirit of Giving" reading clubs on December 9th are only two and a half weeks away, and we need 153 more volunteers.

You can help by joining our December 9th reading club event so your friends will see that on your wall. Then go to our website and sign up with us.

Please tweet, post to Facebook and Instagram, and message your friends that we still need more volunteers.

Please also print out this flyer and post it at your work, school, church, synagogue, mosque, or favorite community bulletin board.

Two More Santa's Helpers Needed!

Santa and elf at MacArthur Park Elem. reading clubs

At least once in your life you should experience being Santa or one of his helpers - and here is your chance!

We need two more people willing to be Mrs. Claus or an assisting "elf" or Santa's helper at our reading clubs on December 9th. We have a Santa for every school that morning - we just need a helper for Santa at Gratts or Charles White Elementary.

Santa's helpers do NOT need to be veteran Reading to Kids volunteers, so please ask your friends if they can be Mrs. Claus or an elf on the 9th!

There's nothing better than seeing the students' excitement when Santa visits our reading clubs! If you can be Mrs. Claus or an assisting "elf" or Santa's helper on December 9th, please email us at info@readingtokids.org. You won't be able to read that day, but you'll see hundreds of smiling faces!

STEP UP TO A BIGGER VOLUNTEER ROLE
AT OUR DEC. 9TH READING CLUBS

Veteran volunteers help out with logistics

Our larger reading clubs means we need more of our experienced volunteers to help train new and returning volunteers, be a GLC, or especially be a second or third Site Coordinator at any of our schools.

If you can help in any of those roles, please visit our home page at www.readingtokids.org and submit your email address in the yellow box, as usual!

Then, e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to tell us the above role you would like to take on to help create wonderful reading clubs!

ANNUAL FUND DRIVE UPDATE

Reading to Kids Annual Fund Drive

We extend a huge thank you to everyone who has already donated to our 2023 Annual Fund Drive! To date we have raised $20,535 donated from 156 donors!

All who have donated can see their names listed on our 2023 Annual Fund Drive page. Donate and we can add your name there, too!

Our Annual Fund Drive lasts until December 31st, and our ambitious goal this year is to raise $60,000 from 500 donors.

Here's how you can help!

1) Make a pledge to donate by check or donate online today by visiting our 2023 Annual Fund Drive. Contributions of any amount are greatly appreciated!

2) Show your support by asking friends and family to contribute! Visit our 2023 Annual Fund Drive page and look under the "Help us Fundraise!" header for resources, including information on creating your own personalized fundraising page on Facebook, our handy donor sheet for raising money with your friends and co-workers, tips for fundraising, and so much more.

Once they know about Reading to Kids, many of your friends and family will want to donate - we just need you to ask!

Also, if your workplace matches donations to nonprofits, please share with them your donation, and ask them to consider matching it. In this way you double your donation and share with others your enthusiasm for Reading to Kids!

FIVE MORE RUNNERS WANTED
FOR THE 2024 LA MARATHON'S
CHARITY HALF MARATHON OR 5K!

Do you know any runners? Are you a runner? Please forward this email to them and ask them to join Team Reading to Kids in the 2024 Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday, March 17th!

 Team Reading to Kids logo

This is our 10th time running the marathon, and we're looking for five more runners to run the Charity Half Marathon - a course between Dodger Stadium and the finish line in Century City, without all of the hills of the full Los Angeles Marathon. This is an exclusive opportunity to participate without having to run the entire route!

If that distance is too daunting, you can join us in the LA Big 5K (that's just 3.1 miles) near Dodger Stadium the day before the marathon on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

If you or a runner you know is interested in becoming one of our fundraising runners or creating a fundraising team, please email Chris Martin at marathon@readingtokids.org!

IMPORTANT NOTE: To register to run on behalf of Reading to Kids, you MUST receive from us a special web address to use when registering on the Los Angeles Marathon website.
