Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

HELP! 129 MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
FOR SEPT. 10TH IN-PERSON CLUBS!

Volunteers needed at Reading to Kids
(Above image is from before the pandemic.)

We are back to in-person reading clubs on our partner school campuses - which means we need many more volunteers!

Volunteers for our reading clubs must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and wear a mask while indoors on campus for the reading clubs. The kids will also be required to wear masks while indoors.

Our September 10th reading clubs need 129 more volunteers - so please join us and help recruit them!

Here are 5 easy things you can do right now to help!

  1. If you haven't already, please visit our website now and sign up.

  2. Publish to your Facebook feed and share with your friends our September 10th Facebook event to encourage them to volunteer!

  3. Whether or not you can volunteer on the 10th, Tweet @readingtokids, post, and message your friends and followers. Here's a sample post you can use:

"My favorite volunteer organization, Reading to Kids, is looking for more volunteers for their September 10th reading clubs. The theme is "Back to School Fun", and every participant will wear masks while indoors. Join me at ### Elementary School for a fantastic morning of reading to elementary school kids near downtown LA. To join me, sign up online today at www.readingtokids.org."

If you write your own post, please be sure to include the following two things:

    - The reading clubs are Saturday morning, September 10th, near downtown LA
    - Volunteers must sign up online by 3pm on Friday, Sept. 9th, at www.readingtokids.org

If you have people in mind who you think would really like to read with us, tag them in your post. It will alert them to the reading clubs and show up in their friends' news feeds.

  4. Copy from our message template at http://www.readingtokids.org/News/SampleVolRecruit.pdf to encourage people you know to sign up to read with us!

  5. Print out this flyer at http://readingtokids.org/ProMaterials/VolunteerTearOffFlyer.pdf and post it somewhere others will see it. Make it a personal and fun social event by including the school at which you'll be reading or encouraging them to read at your favorite of our eight partner schools!
Set up a group to volunteer with us
E-mail us at info@readingtokids.org and we'll get your group added into our volunteer group list!

MANY OPERATIONS VOLUNTEERS
ALSO NEEDED SEPT. 10TH

Veteran volunteers help out with logistics

Now that we are returning back to in-person, on campus reading clubs, we need experienced volunteers to help train new and returning volunteers, be a GLC, or especially to be a second or third Site Coordinator at any of our schools.

If you have volunteered with us before and can help in any of those roles, please visit our home page at www.readingtokids.org and submit your email address in the yellow box, as usual!

Then, e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org to tell us the above role you would like to take on to help create wonderful, in-person reading clubs again!

Thank you in advance for helping us bring Reading to Kids back to our partner-school campuses! :^)

READING TO KIDS AMBASSADORS WANTED
TO HELP START THE SCHOOL YEAR!

Volunteers at Charles White Elementary

If you have volunteered with us before, please help promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools as a Reading to Kids Ambassador!

During these next few weeks of the new school year we are invited to promote Reading to Kids at our partner schools!

There are two different ways you can help:

  • Back-to-School-Nights
  • Classroom Visits next week

We'll supply everything you need, including what to say if parents ask questions and to the kids during classroom visits (explained below). Although it's great if you can speak Spanish (even a little), all of our parent materials are bilingual, and there's always someone who can translate for you at the school.

Next week we need ambassadors to visit any of our schools for an hour during the school day to visit each classroom to encourage kids to come to the September 10th reading clubs held on their campuses. Reply to this email if you can be an ambassador for an hour that week!

Our Ambassadors always have a great time with the kids and parents - come find out why!

If you have volunteered with us before and can be an Ambassador, please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org or call (310) 479-7455.

THANK YOU ECHO NORTHROP GRUMMAN
& THE KLEINER COHEN FOUNDATION

Northrop Grumman logo

We thank the Employees Charity Organization of Northrop Grumman for their generous donation of $2,500 last month! Our volunteers and other employees who work at Northrop Grumman believe in the value of literacy and the future of Los Angeles children!

We also thank The Kleiner Cohen Foundation for its continuing support of Reading to Kids with their most recent $2,000 grant - the 19th year in a row the Foundation has financially supported us!

Grants such as these help all of us together inspire thousands of kids in Los Angeles as we fill the bookshelves in their homes and in their schools' libraries.
