February 17, 2022

Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Last Saturday 236 kids, 67 volunteers, and 22 teachers & staff helped to make our February 12th reading clubs another success!

13% of the student body at Magnolia Elementary and 17% of the student body at Gratts Elementary joined us that Saturday.

One Zoom session at Gratts had thirty 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders attend, with another nine kids joining that same Zoom from a Saturday School classroom on campus!

TWO MILESTONE READERS!

Virtual reading clubs count towards our milestones just as much as our face-to-face reading clubs!

Though we couldn't provide printed milestone certificates to them, we honored these two volunteers by sharing their milestone certificates at their schools' Site Coordinator debrief sessions after the clubs!

• Danielle Currin (20 reading clubs)

MARCH 12TH READING CLUBS ON ZOOM,
RSVPS TO OPEN IN ABOUT A WEEK

We are eager for next month's virtual summer reading clubs on March 12th, but first need to recruit enough teachers to be Zoom hosts for them.

As soon as we confirm enough teacher hosts, you can then submit your RSVP for those "Music & Entertainment" reading clubs!

(We are also in regular communication with the principals about when we may be able to return to in-person reading clubs on their campuses.)

MUSIC VIDEO PERFORMANCE
WANTED FOR MARCH

Last March we were delighted to present to the kids at our Zoom reading clubs that month a musical performance video created for us by the The Lucky Band!

The Lucky Band

For our March 12th reading clubs this year, we are looking for a band or musician willing to create a kid-friendly, highly engaging music video we can share with the kids for those "Music & Entertainment" reading clubs this March 12th.

If you or someone you know can share their gift of music via video with our students and volunteers, please email us at info@readingtokids.org!

Our group will be at Water Station Mile 5 at Glendale Blvd., between Bellevue and Kent St. in Echo Park, on Sunday, March 20th from 5am - 11am.

Supporting our runners

If you can't join us at the above, then donate your support!

Our 2021 runners have until March 20th to reach their ambitious $20,000 fundraising goal! If you can donate a buck a mile to your favorite runner, you'll help fuel them towards the finish line!

NINE RUNNERS STILL NEEDED FOR THE
2022 LA MARATHON,
13.1 MILE CHARITY CHALLENGE,
OR 5K!

Do you know any runners? Are you a runner? Please forward this email to them and ask them to join Team Reading to Kids in the 2022 Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday, March 20th!

We're looking for at least three more marathon runners and six Charity Challenge runners (the last 13.1 miles of the course) to join us in one of the best marathons in the country.

If either of those distances is too daunting, you can join us in the LA Big 5K (that's just 3.1 miles) near Dodger Stadium the day before the marathon on Saturday, March 19, 2022.

You can share this Facebook group with any of your runner friends to encourage them to join our team!

If you or a runner you know is interested in becoming one of our fundraising runners or creating a fundraising team, please email Chris Martin at marathon@readingtokids.org!

IMPORTANT NOTE: To register to run on behalf of Reading to Kids, you MUST receive from us a special web address to use when registering on the Los Angeles Marathon website.
