Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Even though it's the middle of their summer vacation and despite ongoing technical challenges at LAUSD, 103 kids, 58 volunteers, and 17 teachers & staff helped to make our July 10th reading clubs a success!

Based on continuing LAUSD COVID-19 protocols, we'll continue to remain Zoom-only until we hear otherwise from our partner schools.

SIX MILESTONE READERS!

Virtual reading clubs count towards our milestones just as much as our face-to-face reading clubs!

Though we couldn't provide printed milestone certificates to them, we honored these six volunteers by sharing their milestone certificates at their schools' Site Coordinator debrief sessions after the clubs and at our post-reading clubs Zoom "lunch" gathering!

• Jennifer Fox (10 reading clubs)
• Cindy Ho (20 reading clubs)
• Meredith Cruse (90 reading clubs!)
• Carrie Orchard (160 reading clubs!)
• Site Coordinator Mark May (220 reading clubs!)
• David Rickard (230 reading clubs, second only to one of our founders!)

AUGUST 14TH READING CLUBS RSVPS
TO OPEN AUGUST 5TH

We are eager for next month's virtual summer reading clubs on August 14th, but first need to recruit enough teachers to be Zoom hosts for them.

On Thursday, August 5th, at about 11am we will email you how you can submit your RSVP for those "Arts & Creativity" reading clubs!

Our summer reading clubs are smaller, so mark your calendars for August 14th. Help us keep students reading throughout the summer!

OPERATIONS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers checking in with their Site Coordinators on Zoom

For our virtual reading clubs we need experienced volunteers to help train volunteers to use Zoom or be a second or third virtual Site Coordinator in our Zoom reading clubs for any of our schools.

Being a Site Coordinator guarantees you a (non-reading) spot at our next reading clubs, so please e-mail us at info@readingtokids.org if you can help us create wonderful reading clubs!

$35,000 IN GRANTS!

Kids with their books from Reading to Kids

We need to get their permission before we can thank them publicly, but we can share that we recently received $35,000 in grants from two of our past funding supporters!

Did you know Reading to Kids receives about half of our funding from corporation and foundation grants? For example, over the last five years alone eight of our volunteers helped us receive $170,000 in grants from their employers!

Please check to see if your employer offers grants that Reading to Kids can apply to and let us know at info@readingtokids.org! You may help us buy thousands of books for kids!

_______________________________________________

Thanks, and after enough teachers are confirmed, we hope you can join us at our next reading clubs (always the second Saturday of each month) on August 14th.

Sincerely,

Charlie Orchard & Talethe Collins
