Weekly News Update
July 9, 2007

Dear Friends of Reading to Kids,

Welcome back from the holiday week!

The July 14th reading clubs are fast approaching, and we still need 94 volunteers!

July marks the start of a new school year, and we will be giving out school supplies and raffling off backpacks to participating children.  Click here to sign up and help us start the new school year with a smile :)

The July theme is "Independence and Growing Up" and our books include:

**Beegu by Alexis Deacon (Kindergarten). As Beegu, a cuddly, yellow, extraterrestrial, tries to find her way home, she discovers kindness in an unfamiliar place and shows us our world through the eyes of an innocent outsider.

**Guji Guji by Chih-Yuan Chen (2nd grade).
Readers and listeners will be cheering for Guji Guji, a crocodile raised in a family of ducks, as he figures out a way to save both the day and his family.

**Shredderman: Secret Identity by Wendelin Van Draanen (5th grade). Readers will follow Nolan "Shredderman" Byrd as he creatively schemes to expose the school bully.
