Happy Holiday Season!

It's hard to believe it's been a year since our great 2004 December reading clubs, which featured a Santa and raffle at each school.

This year we are gearing up for another wonderful Saturday of reading and cheer in December! There's still space, but make sure to sign up soon to ensure your spot at the December 10th reading clubs by clicking here.

We look forward to seeing you at the December clubs!

Annual Fund Drive Winds Down

The November 12th reading clubs were the official end to our 2005 Annual Fund Drive. (That does not mean that we will not graciously accept year-end donations though.)

As you know, Reading to Kids holds an Annual Fund Drive every year from the September clubs through the November clubs. This fundraising effort allows us to raise necessary dollars to run our program. It also allows our fabulous supporters, volunteers, and friends to make a personal investment in the program and the future success of Reading to Kids.

Everyone is quite aware that 2005 has been filled with opportunities to donate and support many communities in need, starting with the tsunami relief efforts last winter, and most recently with the devastating hurricanes in the South. We feel that this array of important demands plays a role in the decreased number of donations we have received so far this year.

We are grateful to each of our volunteers and donors, and we truly appreciate the overwhelming support that we have received both in dollars and in volunteer time! This year's Annual Fund Drive raised just over $19,000 in gifts and pledges from 235 generous donors.

Thank you for supporting this important fundraising effort! You truly are the people who make it happen!

Hiking Season Returns!

Join Reading to Kids for a challenging hike with beautiful views and giant ruins.

This will be our most challenging hike yet, with a lot of uphill climbing (5 miles roundtrip, 3 hours). This trip is for people who are active hikers. Please bring lots of water, food, sunscreen, hat, and a camera.

   Where: Altadena
   When: December 11th, 10 a.m.
   Hiking Time: 3 hours

Driving Directions: From the I-210 Foothill Freeway in Pasadena, exit at Lake Avenue. Drive north for 3.4 miles to the end of Lake Avenue (where it intersects with the terminus of Loma Alta Drive running east and west). Park along the street.

Friends, families, and dogs are always welcome.

If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Carter, the Social Chair at (310) 497-1796 or at jeffcart1@hotmail.com.
