Weekly News Update
June 24, 2005

Hi R2K Friends and Fans!

Wow! The July 9th Reading Clubs are just around the corner -- time to sign up for these "Independence and Growing Up"-themed Reading Clubs. You can RSVP for the Reading Clubs by clicking here.

It's a great time to celebrate Independence and Growing Up -- not only because everyone's favorite fireworks show is around the corner, but also because this July marks the start of a new school year at everyone's favorite schools: Esperanza, Gratts, Magnolia, and Noble. A new class of kindergarteners will start the year! Fifth graders are graduating (some of them today!) to middle school. Celebrate the always-exciting academic year kick-off at the July Reading Clubs.

Remember: our schools are all on three- or four-track calendars, meaning they've got kids in school year-round. The schools don't stop, so we don't stop volunteering. Make R2K a part of your July and August plans!

Have a GREAT Hair Day this Sunday!

This Sunday is the long-anticipated Cut-a-Thon celebration and Reading to Kids benefit at the Vaksberg Salon. The salon (located at 7803 Beverly Blvd. Los Angeles, Ca. 90036 -- across from CBS) will be hosting an hair-cutting extravaganza from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Anyone who brings three new hardcover books to the salon will get a great haircut for FREE!

In addition, at 7:00 Irene Vaksberg will welcome R2K fans, her clients, and local artists (whose work hangs in the Vaksberg Gallery) to the salon for an evening reception celebrating the month-long book drive. The price of admission to the event? One new children's book!

The "Cuts 4 Books" promotion will go on until June 30th, by which time Irene hopes to have collected 1,000 books for Reading to Kids! How's that for a community-minded local businesswoman?

Join me and your fellow R2K volunteers for a haircut on Sunday...and stick around for the reception afterward. We'd love to see you there!

That's all folks! Hope to see you on Sunday!

Best,
