Winter Reading Clubs are just around the corner!

It's hard to believe it's been a year since our great 2003 December Reading Clubs, which featured a Santa and raffle at each school. This year we're gearing up for another wonderful Saturday of reading and cheer in December! There's still space, but make sure to sign up soon to ensure you can read at the December 11th Reading Clubs by clicking here.

Many of our volunteers have expressed an interest in bringing books and toys for donation to holiday prize raffles at the schools. One of our longtime volunteers, Robyn Chew, even organized a benefit to collect book donations! Thanks, Robyn!

If you'd like to bring something extra this year for donation to the kids, please feel free to bring your prizes to the Reading Clubs on the 11th. If the schedule and Santa visits in December do not leave enough time for a raffle, we'll be sure to raffle the prizes in January as an incentive for further participation by the kids.

The Santa Search is On!

We've got two Santas signed up this year for Noble and for Magnolia, but we're still seeking Santas for Esperanza and Gratts! If you've got the urge to be extra-jolly this December 11th, please consider volunteering to be Santa for the day -- it is a wonderful opportunity.

No Santa experience needed -- last year's volunteers were novice St. Nicks and had an excellent time (if I recall correctly, several children were overcome with joy and yelled out "I love you, Santa!"). Please contact Maryanna Abdo at (310) 479-7455 if you're interested!

Hooray for Hollywood Hike!

Courtesy of our Social Chair, Jeff Carter, another Hollywood Hike is on!

Come join Reading To Kids for a hike to the famous Hollywood Sign!

   Where: Hollywood Hills
   When: December 5th, 10 AM
   Hiking Time: 2 hours

Driving Directions: At the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Western Avenue in Hollywood, drive 0.7 miles West on Franklin Ave to Beachwood Avenue. Turn Right (north) and continue 1.7 miles up Beachwood Drive to Hollyridge Drive. Park near this intersection.

Parking in the past has been free, but as always, be prepared with cash in case parking rates change.

Good things to bring: Warm clothing, cameras, snacks, & water. Friends and family are always welcome.

If you have any questions please contact Jeff Carter, the Social Chair at (310) 497-1796 or at jeffcart1@hotmail.com.

See you on the 11th!
