October Reading Club Sets New Record for Student Attendance!!!

The Gratts Reading Club held on October 9th set a new record for student attendance as 120 students from all grade levels participated. This new record continues the tremendous growth of the reading program at Gratts. From a base of 20 students at the initial reading club in May, the club has experienced continual growth as Gratts students spread the word to all of their friends about the program.

The October reading club was also a special success as it marked the introduction of two new facets of the reading club--the pre-school program and book donations to the school library. Because reading aloud can have a tremendous impact on children at a very young age, Reading to Kids has extended the program to include pre-schoolers. Eyewitness accounts have it that Gratts's own principal, Raul Fernandez, gathered the pre-schoolers for a very special reading session. The October reading club also marked the introduction of donating all of the books read to the children participating in the reading club to the school library. All of the books read on the 9th (they all had a special Halloween theme) were donated to the Gratts school library.
