ABC7 Los Angeles and Citysearch Name Reading to Kids
the #2 Way to Volunteer in Los Angeles

Reading to Kids honored as a top way to volunteer in L.A.

LOS ANGELES – Reading to Kids made it to the top of the list as Citysearch and ABC7 Los Angeles Announce the Top 7 Ways to Volunteer in Los Angeles.  Coming in at number two, Reading to Kids inspires children with a love of reading and encourages hundreds of community members to volunteer.

"We are thrilled to have received the number two spot on the Citysearch list," said Lisa Flores, Program Director of Reading to Kids.  "Our program counts on the participation of enthusiastic volunteers who love to read and spend time with children.  The reading clubs are accessible to volunteers who are available on any second Saturday of the month.  It’s a rewarding and flexible program for people who are ready to give back to their community."

The organization brings in an average of 473 volunteers each month to read to 1,175 children.  Citysearch editor Mar Yvette summed up the organization’s simple appeal, "If you have a soft spot for children and you love to read, this is where you should be volunteering your time."

On the second Saturday of every month, Reading to Kids organizes volunteer-led reading clubs at eight partner elementary schools in the downtown Los Angeles area.  Volunteers sign up online and receive training on-site at their pre-selected school.  To learn more about volunteering, please visit www.readingtokids.org.
