The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout. Down came the rain....

As the itsy bitsy spider struggles, Pete and his friends know just what to do to help out!

Note to readers:
•  This is a fairly short book. The readers may want to do a walk through of the book before reading it.

Discussion topics for before reading:
•  Will Pete the Cat and the Itsy Bitsy Spider get along? Why or why not?
•  Do you know the Itsy Bitsy Spider song?

Vocabulary:

•  Water Spout - a pipe running down the side of the building to carry away water from the gutter of the roof.

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  What are some rhymes in the book?
•  Do you think the spider will be successful climbing up the water spout?
•  Have you had a friend cheer you on while you worked on something?

Craft ideas:
•  The children can make spiders using yarn.
•  The children can make umbrellas using paper plates and yarn.

Special activities:
•  The class can sing other rhyming songs such as Five Little Ducks and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
