Synopsis: Children of the Earth, with its bright, stirring and lighthearted illustrations, takes the child on an earth journey through the world of the senses. As the young reader voyages through many landscapes of our planet, the book invites them to discover their own connection to all life on earth. By appealing to the senses of sight, hearing, and feeling, Children of the Earth enables its readers to experience the harmony of the earth as a common homeland for all.

Craft ideas:
•  Divide up the children into the categories of the book--children of the sky, sea, earth, etc. Give them a piece of paper in a corresponding color (Earth = green), and have them draw what they would see, hear, or feel.
•  Make an earth bookmark (globe on top).
•  If you could live in another part of the world with a different landscape, or different weather, where would it be, and why? Draw that place.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
