Synopsis: Meet Duck and Goose, two young birds who mistake a polka-dot ball for an egg and have to master the art of cooperation - and sharing - to take care of it. But friendship is not always easy, as proved in this funny, accessible story. Young readers will instantly recognize themselves in these adorable and eternally optimistic characters, and this edition features extra content from the author on how to draw Duck & Goose.

Note to readers:
•  At first glance, the illustrations appear to be for much younger children; however, they become animated when you start reading.

Discussion topics for before reading:
•  Does anyone know if a duck and a goose are both able to fly? (Yes)
•  When we read this book, we will all remember having a problem with a friend!
•  As we read you may also remember being stubborn and then feel silly :)

Vocabulary:

•  Hollered—shouted or yelled loudly
•  Scolded-found a fault or a mistake and expressed anger at person
•  Occupant-someone living in a place or taking space in a place (in the “egg")
•  Waddle-walk with short steps, in a slow, rocking manner (like a duck)
•  Doubt-be uncertain, to distrust person or information, not believing

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  Do you think Duck and Goose should say “I am sorry” for their behavior?
•  Do you think you would rather find an EGG or a BALL?

Craft ideas:
•  Make a Father’s Day (Sunday, June 19th) card for someone (father, grandfather, uncle).
•  If you know someone, make a graduation card for them. For a younger sibling who is “graduating” from preschool or kindergarten; a friend “graduating” to Middle school or an older sibling graduating from High School, Trade School or college.
•  Let’s draw a colorful ball we would like to find or receive to enjoy.
•  We can draw a duck or a goose—a goose will have longer neck. 4 simple steps for duck (add longer neck for goose). See Pinterest examples at https://www.pinterest.com/readingtokids/june-2022-friendship-fun//

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
