Synopsis: All Virgie wants is to go to school with her brothers George, Will, Nelson, Val, and C. C. But they keep saying she's too little for the long, seven-mile walk, and that girls don't need school. Well, Virgie doesn't agree, and she's not gonna let anything stand in her way.

Discussion topics: To be posted soon ...

Craft ideas:
•  What do you think happened to Virgie when she grew up? Use your imagination, and draw what she became.
•  Make a map of the journey they took to go to school based on the description from the book.
•  Going to school was really important to Virgie. What's really important to you? What do you want to do when you grow older, and what do you need to do to get there? Make hats or nametags that show this.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
