Synopsis: Marisol loves to paint. So when her teacher asks her to help make a mural for the school library, she can't wait to begin! But how can Marisol make a sky without blue paint? After gazing out the bus window and watching from her porch as day turns into night, she closes her eyes and starts to dream...

Discussion topics for before reading:
•  What color would you paint the sky today?
•  What do you think the girl on the cover is painting?

Vocabulary
•  Mural - a large picture painted on or made a part of a wall or a ceiling.
•  Brainstorm - To find ways of solving problems by having members of a group freely talk about their ideas.
•  Rummage - to make a thorough search by turning over and looking through the contents of.

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  Marisol is passionate about art. What are you passionate about?
•  Marisol does not have blue paint. What do you think Marisol is going to do?
•  What color would you use to paint the sky instead?

Craft ideas:
•  The kids can glue cotton balls to a piece paper in order to make clouds. Using crumpled pieces of paper they have colored, they can create different colors and types of clouds, too
•  The kids can draw what they see outside

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
