Synopsis: This story centers around a little island in the midst of the wide ocean, and the curious kitten who comes to visit. As the seasons pass, the island and the creatures who call it home witness an ever-changing array of sights, smells, and sounds - proving that, no matter how small, we are all an important part of the world.

Discussion topics for before reading:
•  Where do you think The Little Island is located?
•  What do you imagine life is like on the island?

Vocabulary
•  Kingfisher - a bird with a large head, a strong beak, and bright markings.
•  Gull - a water bird that has webbed feet, gray and white feathers, and long, pointed wings.
•  Faith - Confidence or trust in a person or thing.

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  What is your favorite bird?
•  What do you think summer is like on The Little Island?
•  The kitten asks, "How is an Island a part of the land"? How would you answer that?

Craft ideas:
•  The children can make spider webs using string and glue it to a piece of paper.
•  The children can make puppets of kittens using socks, paper bags, or paper plates

Special activities:
•  REMINDER: if you don’t have air conditioning, on a very hot day your public library has AC to help keep you cool.
