Synopsis: Nothing frightens Winifred Schnitzel - but she DOES need her sleep, and the neighborhood monsters WON'T let her be! Every night they sneak in, growling and belching and making a ruckus. Winifred constructs clever traps, but nothing stops these crafty creatures. What's a girl to do? (Hint: Monsters HATE kisses!)

Note to readers:
•  Winifred Schnitzel (is that a funny name?), likes monsters. Except, they keep her from falling asleep. The monsters are too noisy. She can’t focus in school, her ballet is affected, all her focus is on the monsters. How does Winifred put her life back together with the monsters in it?

Discussion topics for before reading:
•  Are you afraid of the dark?
•  Do you kiss your monsters goodnight?
•  Can grownups sleep with lights on?

Vocabulary

•  Burst-to let something out. The monsters burst into laughter when they saw they could keep poor Winifred up all night.
•  Stinky-Something that smells very bad. If you don’t change your socks daily your feet become smelly or stinky.
•  Cute-attractive, pretty

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  Do you need to build a trap to keep the monsters away?
•  Are you going to kiss monsters goodnight?

Craft ideas:
•  Cut out pieces of paper and make your favorite monster.
•  Draw a monster
•  Draw or make a monster trap! or even make a shopping list for what you need to build a monster trap!

Special activities:
•  Do your best monster face impressions.

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
