Synopsis: When Tom’s big brother decides to become an Evil Scientist, his first experiment involves dunking Frankie the goldfish into toxic green gunk. Tom knows that there is only one thing to do: Zap the fish with a battery and bring him back to life! But there’s something weird about the new Frankie. He’s now a BIG FAT ZOMBIE GOLDFISH with hypnotic powers . . . and he’s out for revenge!

Discussion topics for before reading:
•  What is a zombie goldfish?
•  How would a zombie goldfish make a bad pet? How would it be a good pet?

Vocabulary:
•  millipede - any of a class of arthropods having a long segmented body with a hard covering, two pairs of legs on most segments, and unlike the related centipedes no poison fangs

Discussion topics for during/after reading:
•  Who is the Evil Scientist? What does he do to Frankie the goldfish?
•  How does Frankie the goldfish become a zombie?
•  What do you think will happen after Frankie becomes a zombie goldfish?

Craft ideas:
•  Make a fish bowl using a paper plate or cut round construction paper. Draw a zombie goldfish with big hypnotic eyes. Add a little castle, skulls, & lots of fish skeletons. Be sure to include a warning sticker on the bowl.
•  Draw or cut out pictures like the "equation" on the back cover. (goldfish + beaker full of toxic green gunk + evil scientist = dead fist x battery = zombie goldfish)

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
