Synopsis: It's evening in the forest and Little Owl wakes up from his day-long sleep to watch his friends enjoying the night. A full moon rises and Little Owl can't understand why anyone would want to miss it. Could the daytime be nearly as wonderful?

Discussion topics:
•  Do all animals sleep at night like we do? What are some animals that you know that stay up all night?

Vocab:
•  Waddle: walk with short steps
•  Gnaw: chew
•  Clover: grassy field covered in clover plants
•  Hover: float above the ground
•  Flutter: flap wings quickly
•  Croak: the sound a frog makes
•  Chirp: the sound crickets make

Craft ideas:
•  Animal fence hanger: glue three popsicle sticks together at the ends to form a square missing one side. The side with the middle popsicle stick will be the bottom of the fence. Glue a popsicle stick parallel to the bottom stick an inch above it. Then glue another popsicle stick paralllel to these two an inch above the second one. Cut a stip of green construction paper to make grass. Glue the green construction paper to the bottom popsicle stick. Make an animal of your choice out of construction paper and glue it to the popsicle sticks. Glue a long piece of ribbon to the top of the two sticks standing vertically in order for the fence to hang. (GLCs, let us know if you need sticks and ribbon.)

*Note: These craft ideas are just suggestions. You can use them, but you don't have to use them. You can expand upon them, or add your own twist. Remember, though, that the focus of your time should not be on the development and execution of a craft; the focus should be on the read-aloud and the enjoyment of the book!
